Australian Healthy Living Blog Sydney - Southern In-Law

From Kristy

The week that was!

Well goodness! It seems the last newsletter was a hit and you seriously know how to make a girl blush!

The Southern In-Law Newsletter will definitely be a weekly feature of the blog and I loved hearing all of your feedback and suggestions. So thank you to each and every one of you that sent an email/message/comment - I've already told you all, but everytime I hear from one of you it totally makes my day!

This week has been a bit of a muddled up week for us - with the ANZAC Public Holiday on Thursday it was a cut-off week, however, Jesse has taken the day off work today and I'm looking forward to spending some extra time with him today.

Tonight we're babysitting so it will be a quick and easy meal like Avocado Quinoa before we head out.

Last week I introduced you to our Photographer and Cake Goddesses (who yes, really are creating a gluten free allergy friendly cake!) and this week I have some new members of our "team" to share with you!

Ra Ra Kitty Props - Wedding Stylist, SydneyOur Wedding Stylist
Last week we went to see the lovely Nicolle at Ra Ra Kitty Props who will be our wedding reception wizard. Nicolle's showroom was absolute heaven and we hit it off instantly. I am so excited to be working with her and can't wait for us to put our creative heads together and come up with an incredible plan. If you have any type of event or photoshoot coming up and you want a vintage feel, get in touch with Nicolle - she has everything from vases and dinner sets to gorgeous furniture pieces!

As we choose more of our Wedding Vendors, we'll be introducing them to you!

We are still searching for the perfect Wedding Reception Venue. Lately we've been looking at warehouse/loft style spaces to fit with our theme and almost found the perfect one - but it was ridiculously overpriced.

If you know of a space that might work, let us know! It has to be in and around the Sydney area - and we don't care what that space is at any other time (whether it's an office or photography studio or whateever!)

As always, I love getting your recommendations - so please let me know if you have a friend/relative/someone you used for your wedding that comes highly recommended!
I am breakfast bake obsessed at the moment, so you can be sure that you'll be seeing more recipes very soon as I perfect them. For now, try my Chocolate Protein Bakes, Baked Banana Oatmeal or my Banana Buckwheat Bakes.

DARE Cafe, The RocksAlso coming up next week will be a post about our new FAVOURITE Cafe! DARE at the Rocks - a gluten free, vegan and allergy friendly cafe with food that is incredible! I can't wait to share!

Next week I also have quite a few new recipes planned - but I'd love to get your suggestions for different posts or new recipes! Just send me an email, leave a comment or tweet me!
love receiving emails, comments and messages from you guys when you try out a recipe or give us some feedback on the blog. Check out these reader creations!

This week's most popular recipe:
Chocolate Protein Breakfast BakesChocolate Protein Breakfast Bakes (clean eating friendly, gluten free, low fat, high protein, freezer friendly)

New Recipes this week:
Healthy Brown Rice QuicheBrown Rice Quiche  (gluten free, clean eating friendly, low fat, freezer friendly) - this recipe is a must try for everyone! It pleased the world's fussiest eater so it's sure to be a hit with your family too. My entire family love it and that's something that rarely happens!

This week has been a little bit crazy! With our stay at the Swissotel, and ANZAC day yesterday, the week seemed to fly by!

We spent our ANZAC Day having a picnic in beautiful Carrs Park and enjoying the sunshine and fresh air. It was the perfect way to spend the day and I was so glad we all got out together.

This afternoon I'm off to a very exciting meeting regarding the blog, so hopefully I will be sharing some very exciting news soon!!
Foods We're Loving
On Sunday I had a delicious Spinach and Ricotta Frittata at DARE and I've been craving one ever since!

I don't know how they do it - but it was the best frittata I've ever had! And my lame attempt at recreating it on Wednesday totally didn't even come close! I guess I'll just need to go back for more ASAP! (and maybe take 5 home :P)

Products We're Loving
The Masha! This is one of my favourite kitchen appliances at the moment (almost as good as my Tefal Fresh Express) as it makes it so much easier to make purees or mash things.

I was making a batch of banana breakfast bakes yesterday and didn't feel like mashing bananas (I have been struggling with fatigue and aches so I can be lazy ;P) so I whipped out the Masha and the bananas were perfectly mashed in under thirty seconds!

Best of all, the Masha isn't an expensive appliance - and it does way more than mash potatoes. I use it for pumpkin puree (read how I make it here), avocado, bananas, applesauce, sweet potato puree and just about anything else you need mashed or pureed. I saw the Masha's at Big W this week and they were $68 (though I'm sure they may come on sale with Mother's Day coming up!)

Our favourite posts this week
From us:
  • Our Stay at the Swissotel and our dinner at JPB Restaurant were definitely a highlight for us this week - and it was so good to find somewhere that was allergy friendly!
  • My absolute favourite post of the week was my Chocolate Protein Breakfast Bakes because I am obsessed. Seriously, make these babies and spread some peanut butter on top and you have the best breakfast ever.
From blogs and sites we love:
  • Top 10 Most Romantic Wedding Photos - I saw this post and sent it to our wedding photographer, Lucie, right away as I knew she'd love it too! Check out the pictures - I especially love the one with the sparklers.
  • Weekly Food Prep - I love Madeline's Food Prep post as it seems like we have similar routines. With Jesse working full time and me running a very busy business I like to have things ready to go during the week. I find breakfast bakes work best for me for quick and easy  reakfasts and I always have dinners ready to go in the freezer incase we get home late. At the moment in our freezer there are: Spinach and Feta Bakes, Pasta Frittata, Brown Rice Quiches (with chicken and without) and Cheesy Quinoa Bakes - as well as a stack of muffins for quick and easy snacks and breakfast bakes for busy mornings.
  • Romantic Atlanta Wedding at Ruffled - There are so many things I love about this wedding - and as we're still searching for the perfect venue, I'm wishing there was something similar to their wedding reception venue in Sydney! (if you know of somewhere, tell me!)
