Dear Friends of Swift,

So much has happened over the fall and winter months at Swift School. While there have been significant budget setbacks throughout CPS, we still have a lot to be thankful for at Swift. In the past six months we've seen the 2nd renovation phase of the auditorium completed, we partnered with teachers, parents and community members to hold a Celebration of Edgewater Rally and you've helped us raise over $3,000 to help pay lifeguards for Swift's P.E. swim classes. There's more in our future and we'd love for you to continuing being a part of it. If you would like to be more involved in Friends of Swift, please don't hesitate to email me. In the mean time, please check out all that has happened and especially what's coming up on Monday, February 27th!
Sincerely,

Dori H. Gorman
Director of Friends of Swift

SWIFT NIGHT OUT ⎥Monday, February 27 · 5PM - 9PM

This Monday you can check out one of Edgewater's newest and hottest restaurants while supporting Swift School! Income Tax restaurant (5959 N Broadway) is opening their doors to supporters of Swift this Monday, February 27 from 5PM to 8PM. The $20 cost of admission includes passed appetizers and there will be a cash bar - with ALL proceeds going to Swift. Please buy your ticket today to support Swift - we need as many people as possible to purchase a ticket by this Friday, February 24th so that Income Tax can prepare enough food. We hope this event will finish funding Swift's Spring Musical production of Cinderella - paying for costumes, equipment and staffing needs. Will you be a part of this special night?!

PHASE 2 COMPLETE⎥New Chairs and Carpet Arrived in September

Phase 1 included new paint, a new stage curtain and new drapes for the windows.  In September 2016, Phase 2 brought in new carpet and chairs.  We have hopes of Phase 3 including a new screen, lighting updates, and new audio/visual equipment sometime in the near future. With current budget needs, however, Phase 3 is currently on hold. But we still want to celebrate the completion of Phase 2! Little by little it is exciting to see former Principal Till's dream become a reality.  If you'd like to donate to offset current budget needs and to eventually help us start Phase 3, go to friendsofswift.com today!

SPECIAL THANK YOU⎥Independent Spirits raises $1000 for Swift!

On Saturday, November 26, 2016 locally-owned wine and whiskey store, Independent Spirits, donated 10% of all of their sales to Swift School. While “Black Friday” has traditionally been the day to shop for gifts, Friends of Swift supported “Small Business Saturday” specifically at Independent Spirits. Thanks to their generosity, we raised $1,000 in just one day! Thank you Independent Spirits for caring about Swift!

STUFF SWIFT'S STOCKING⎥You Raised $1500 this Holiday Season!

Between Thanksgiving and the New Year, we raised close to $1,500 through our Stuff Swift's Stocking campaign! Many of you were a part of this campaign and your generosity went a long way! Thank you so much for contributing to Swift during the holiday season - we are grateful for the impact you are making.

CELEBRATION OF EDGEWATER RALLY⎥An Incredible Event!

Students, parents, teachers and community members gathered on the Swift playground on Thursday, February 2, 2017 to celebrate the incredible diversity of Swift School. We rallied to send a message of hope, change, and support for Edgewater's immigrant and refugee families. Following the rally there was an informational meeting for parents with speakers from Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, Arise Chicago and Centro Romero. Several news organizations covered this event, so be sure to check out these articles from Chicago TribuneWBEZ News and DNAinfo.

ANOTHER SPECIAL THANK YOU⎥Ethiopian Diamond raises $500 for Swift!

On Friday, February 3, 2017 one of our favorite Ethiopian restaurants, Ethiopian Diamond, donated 10% of their sales to Swift School. Again, in just one day we raised close to $500. This night was planned completely by Swift's Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) and we are grateful to the hard work of Swift parents! This was the first of what we hope will become many "Dining Out for Swift School" nights. If you know of a local business, especially a restaurant owner, who may be interested in participating, please share this informational letter to learn more.
