Bauma CONEXPO AFRICA wrapped up in mid-March and the internationally renowned trade exhibition left visitors and exhibitors with a positive outlook for the industry. Recent economic challenges have pummelled the construction and building industry, while legislative uncertainty has stunted the growth of the South African mining industry. However, this is set to change. The sheer amount of international visitors to bauma shows there is renewed interest in investing in South African projects. Strong diplomatic ties mean South Africa also continues to enjoy a good relationship with countries like India and China. One example is XCMG. The company exhibited innovative construction equipment at bauma and spoke enthusiastically about the many growth opportunities Africa has to offer.

Beware the dangers of using fake parts

Using imitation or fake parts in OEM equipment poses a major risk to the health and safety of machine operators, in addition to being hugely detrimental to the overall performance of the equipment. ‘Grey market’ goods not only pose a potential danger to customers, but also present a serious business challenge. Due to the economic downturn rendering the market highly price-sensitive at present the best strategy is to educate end users about the disadvantages, and hidden costs, posed by fake parts.
