2018 has opened with news of acquisitions and expansions as well as exciting equipment innovations. Just last year, Atlas Copco announced that it would split into two separate international groups of companies with Epiroc taking on the mining and excavation division. Now Atlas Copco has agreed to acquire the assets of Renegade Drilling Supplies, which will form part of Epiroc. Water, or lack thereof, is a hot topic in South Africa and while the forecast is still dire, law firm Webber Wentzel suggests that the crisis could also be looked at as a growth opportunity for the mining sector. This year has started with existing challenges but innovation and thinking out of the box will be key to making the most of the growth opportunities that exist within the crises.
