IFMSA-Québec en Tanzanie pour l'Assemblée Générale AM2017!
 

IFMSA-Québec a envoyé une délégation à la 66ème Assemblée générale d'août de la Fédération internationale des associations d’étudiants en médecine -IFMSA qui a eu lieu à Arusha, en Tanzanie du 1er au 7 août 2017.  

Cette rencontre internationale rassemblait plus de 800 étudiant.e.s provenant d’une centaine de pays. Les délégué.e.s ont défendu les intérêts de l’ensemble des étudiant.e.s en médecine du Québec autour d’enjeux sociaux, culturels et mondiaux de la santé. Voici ce qui en dit Michelle Houde, une déléguée présente à la rencontre:

"J’ai la ferme conviction que le travail que chaque délégué met dans cette rencontre d’août d’IFMSA contribue à forger une planète en santé, unie et juste. J’ai la ferme conviction que ces quelques 850 leaders de demain ne tarderont à comprendre et appliquer le concept que 'seuls, nous allons vite mais qu’ensemble, nous allons loin'.»

IFMSA-Quebec in Tanzania for the AM2017 General Assembly!

IFMSA-Québec has sent a delegation to the 66th General assembly of the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations - IFMSA held in Arusha, Tanzania, from August 1st to 7th, 2017.

The international meeting gathered over 800 medical students coming from over one hundred countries. Our delegates had the opportunity to defend the interests of all Québec medical students in discussions concerning social, cultural and global health issues. Here's what Michelle Houde, one of the delegates, had to say about her experience:

"I have a strong conviction that the work done by each delegate for this IFMSA August Meeting has contributed to bringing health, unity, and justice to our planet. I have a strong conviction that the 850 or so leaders of tomorrow will soon  understand and practice the idea that 'alone we may go fast, but together we go further'"

Call for Task Force on Live Streaming and Online Voting

IFMSA is opening a call for the Task Force on Live Streaming and Online Voting. Following the report of the Task Force on NMO (National Members Association) Participation Barriers presented at the 66th IFMSA General Assembly August Meeting, IFMSA is opening this Task Force to study the recommendation of offering streaming and online voting to its members in the future to favour participation.

Objectives:

Live Streaming:

  • Identify possible technical issues of GA live streaming, including what platform will the live streaming take place and who will set up the platform.
  • Aim to have the plenaries of 67th IFMSA General Assembly March Meeting 2018 properly live streamed.
  • Assess the mechanism of GA live streaming, which part of the plenaries can be live streamed and who can access the live streaming, and ensure NMO consultation in this process.
  • Follow up on the evaluation of the live streaming.
Online Voting:
  • Identify possible technical issues of online voting.
  • Assess how online voting can facilitate the decision making of the General Assembly and in IFMSA.
  • Assess the possibility of using online voting parallel to the plenaries of the General Assembly meeting and identify which agenda points can be voted online.
  • Assess in the NMO report of March Meeting 2018 how NMOs think about online voting.
  • Consult NMOs on whether IFMSA should implement online voting as method.

Call for Task Force on Gender Representation and Empowerment

IFMSA is opening a call for the Task Force on Gender Empowerment and Representation. Gender balance will be ensured and at least four regions will be represented in this Task Force.

Objectives:

  • Analyse the gender representation in the past 5 years in IFMSA (officials, international assistants and heads of delegation to external meetings).
  • Collect cohesive data on gender disparities and representation within our federation that goes beyond the already collected data in order to truly represent all regions and genders.
  • Analyse and propose potential solutions to those situations in which members refer having experienced discrimination due to their sex, gender identity or gender expression.
  • Explore the present gender stereotypes in IFMSA members and whether these lead to unperceived gender based violence and discrimination situations.
  • Propose inclusive strategies to increase the visibility of gender minorities within IFMSA.
  • Provide a space in which members can discuss gender issues continually after assessing the needs.

Call for Participants: 4th Global Forum on Human Resources for Health

The World Health Organization's 4th Global Forum on Human Resources for Health will take place between November 13th - 17th in Dublin, Ireland. IFMSA invites you to participate and is already involved in the organization of a Youth Forum at this event!

What is the Global Forum on Human Resources for Health?

To date, three global forums on human resources for health were convened setting the foundation for important developments in the health workforce agenda. The First Global Forum (Uganda, 2008) resulted in the development of a global roadmap for HRH development and originated the WHO Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel (the Kampala Declaration and Agenda for Global Action); the Second Global Forum (Thailand, 2011) called for increased investments, sustained leadership and adoption of effective policies on HRH; and the Third Global Forum (Brazil, 2013) concluded with the Recife Political Declaration on HRH: renewed commitments towards universal health coverage.

The 4th Global Forum on Human Resources for Health will be co-hosted by Trinity College, Dublin, Irish Aid, Department of Health, Ireland, Health Services Executive, World Health Organization and Global Health Workforce Network, will bring together a multisectoral group of actors, across the education, finance, health and labour sectors, as well as multilateral and bilateral agencies, academic institutions, health professional associations and civil society.

Call for Vice-President for Public Relations and Communications 2017/18 ad interim
[DL: August 27th, 23:59 GMT]

IFMSA is currently looking for a Vice-president for Public Relations and Communications (VPPRC) interim.

The interim Vice-President for Public Relations will be appointed by a decision of the Executive Board, after input from the Executive Board elect. The appointed VPPRC ad interim will need to resubmit his or her candidature for March Meeting 2018 to be considered as ordinary VPPRC. 

For a comprehensive description of the tasks of the VPPRC, as well as every other EB member, please consult the Bylaws: goo.gl/RQxTnl.

You can send in your submission at any time from now until the 27th August 2017, 23:59 GMT.


Candidates for any IFMSA Officials position have to submit the following documents  (Bylaws, paragraph 3.73):

  1. A filled out Candidature Form, signed and stamped by the President of the candidate’s National Member Organisation. If the candidate is the NMO President the confirmation must be signed by a suitable alternative NMO board member. The Candidature Form is attached as GS_IFMSA EB_VPPRC ad interim_[your name]_CF. Change “[your name]” to your first and last name.

  2. A filled out Technical Data Card for Officials. The Technical Data Card is attached as GS_[your name]_TDC. Change “[your name]” to your first and last name.

  3. A motivation letter and a plan of action.

  4. A curriculum vitae. Proof of information provided in the CV should be available upon request by a National Member Organisation

  5. One copy of the identity page of the candidate’s passport for registration purposes.

Candidatures for Executive Board positions should be sent to gs@ifmsa.org with the code [CAND EB] in the beginning of the subject of your email, followed by the name of the position you apply for.
