Super Saturday 2014
So many of our families and members of the community came out to enjoy Super Saturday 2014! The Lord blessed us with a gorgeous spring day, and we were able to host most of the activities on our new athletic practice field, giving the event a true carnival-style atmosphere! The Silent Auction alone made a record $31,150, kids of all ages enjoyed a variety of games and inflatables, and the fellowship among friends old and new was wonderful! Many thanks to each of you who volunteered your time to make WCA's largest one-day fundraiser a tremendous success! Proceeds from Super Saturday go directly back into the classroom, as well as the 2013-2014 Annual Fund, which enhances the Wake Christian experience through improvements in technology, security, fine arts, athletics, and so much more!
Krista Smith, Class of 2014, Receives Her "Big Envelope" from NC State University
Part of what makes Wake Christian so special is how our students are encouraged to recognize and develop their God-given gifts, and Senior Krista Smith has spent years refining her talents in music and art. In fact, Krista was chosen as one of only 16 students accepted into the North Carolina State University School of Design, and she has had the distinction of having her artwork displayed at Contemporary Art and Design, in Raleigh, for the past two years.
Active in WCA's Band and Strings for nine years, a member of both the Honors All-State Band and the Tri-M Music Honor Society for four years, and Drum Major of the Bulldog Marching Regiment for the last two years, Krista was recently awarded First Place for Music Theory in the State Fine Arts Competition. She had the opportunity to participate last week in the National Competition, held at Bob Jones University, in Greenville, SC.
Krista also sings in WCA's Praise Team, and played the part of Gertrude in the Senior Class' rendition of Seussical. A Girl Scout for 13 years, she received her Silver Award during her Freshman year, and is currently working toward her Gold Award. In addition to her passion for music, Krista also loves horses, and has been riding for 12 years. In her Sophomore year, she placed First at the NC State Fair Youth Day, in the Saddleseat Division.
After school, you can find Krista working at one of her two jobs, ColdStone Creamery and Ruckus Pizza, or helping out at Phillips Farm, where she boards her 32-year-old horse, Fancy.
Krista will begin the Industrial and Product Design program at NC State this fall. Congratulations, Krista, on your many accomplishments! Your hard work has paid off, and your entire WCA family is so proud of you and wishes you the best of luck in the future!

Meet Mike Woods
The Woods Family
Mr. Woods' Favorite Verse is Proverbs 3:5-6. "I find great comfort in this passage because God expects me to trust Him. He has prepared a perfect plan for my life and has my best interest at heart. My responsibility is to be obedient. I don't have to design the plan for my life; He has done that and I just need to walk with Him. That brings great comfort and security."
WCA's Head of School Mike Woods began teaching Science, Health, and Physical Education at Wake Christian Academy in 1995. He served in this capacity for two years, before becoming the Middle School Director, and subsequently Middle School Principal, in 1999. For the 2003-2004 school year, he was both the Head of School and High School Principal, and has served as Head of School since 2004. In addition to these roles, Mr. Woods has coached both JV and Varsity Football and Baseball.
Prior to joining the faculty at WCA, Mr. Woods was a Deputy Sheriff with the Wake County Sheriff's Department, from 1990 - 1995, and from 1986-1988, he played football at NC State University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech Communication. Mr. Woods went on to receive his Master of Arts Degree in Christian School Administration, from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Mr. Woods' three children, Camden (14), Kendel (11), and Karis (9) all attend Wake Christian Academy. "I appreciate the fact that my children have outstanding Christian educators investing in their lives for eight hours a day, 180 days a year," he said. "They are receiving a quality, Christ-centered education that is consistent with biblical teachings and our family's faith in Jesus Christ."
The Woods Family are members of Colonial Baptist Church, where Mike and Kelly, his wife of 22 years, teach a Newlywed Sunday School class. When he's not working, Mike enjoys lots of family time, traveling, reading, and running.
"I love the opportunities you have to be involved in sharing the Gospel and helping students develop their talents for the Lord," he says of his work at Wake Christian. "It is a great joy to watch students grow up and make a difference in our world with their lives!"
Thank you, Mr. Woods, for your thoughtful and prayerful leadership of our school! You are very much appreciated by the students and their families, as well as the faculty and staff members under your direction.
Congratulations, Mrs. Sauls!
During the April schoolwide staff meeting, Head of School Mike Woods presented Elementary Principal Sandra Sauls with a framed certificate of achievement, "In recognition of your dedication and perseverance to the standard of excellence in education, Wake Christian Academy extends our congratulations to you for your exceptional effort and success in completion of your Master of Education in Teaching and Learning." Mrs. Sauls graduated with High Distinction and earned this degree from Liberty University. Congratulations, Mrs. Sauls!
