Members, family and friends celebrate this year’s CHFT Diversity Scholarship recipients

There was a great turnout at the 2019 CHFT Diversity Scholarship Event on June 26 at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts. Members, family and friends heard about the inspiring work recipients had done in their co-ops, schools and communities.

The national Include Co-op Campaign has launched. Canada votes on Monday, October 21. Housing co-ops in Canada have much to gain in this election.

Delegates play a key role in CHFT’s outreach and organizing.

Delegates keep their co-ops informed by receiving regular communication such as mailings from CHFT.

Co-op Cost Cutters

A co-op’s units are its biggest asset. Co-op Cost Cutters has several tools that will keep these assets in good condition.

Co-ops have been telling me for years that it’s getting hard to find volunteers to do unit inspections. And when staff does inspections, it takes up a lot of their valuable time. 
Inspections are time consuming and challenging to do with volunteers. And once done, how do you sort through all the information? 

Sometimes, they don’t get done at all.  I have been researching this for years.

Enter Noratek. This is a Canadian company that makes City Reporter, a unit and property inspection software. The software was pilot tested in two co-ops that provided excellent feedback. All you need is a smart phone or tablet.

Noratek adapted the software for co-ops. You can use it to inspect units, common areas, parking areas, playgrounds and more. It can be customized for your co-op.

Noratek is offering a special price to set up the program for your co-op with your specific unit info. All this, plus training, for under $2,000. The deadline for this package is September 30, 2019.

Grand & Toy has jumped in to offer special pricing on tablets. And Building Up, another Cost Cutters supplier, now offers unit inspection services. They have been trained on City Reporter and have already been retained by some co-ops. They can also do unit inspections in Excel format for co-ops that do not purchase the software.

Benefits of the City Reporter software:
  • easy to do inspections
  • saves time
  • easy to access and sort through the data once it is gathered
  • stored to the cloud for safekeeping; data will not be affected by fire or flood
  • info can be accessed remotely from any location
  • photos can be taken before and after work orders
  • work orders can be forwarded to Maintenance Staff or contractors
  • reports can be generated for Board or committees
