Happy Spring from The Open Pantry!

Support our work!
The Open Pantry is gaining more clients every year but our fundraising is at an all-time low! The number of individuals and families we serve each month are increasing along with our organizational expenses.  Please help us sustain our important work in the community, and consider making a donation to The Open Pantry.  All donations are 100% tax-deductible.

After graduating from UMass Lowell, Nicole Carpenter began volunteering at the Pantry in late summer 2012. This work helped her gain a deeper understanding and connection to the Lowell community. She is happy to take on more responsibility in the role of Executive Assistant for the Pantry.

A Season of New Growth

Spring is finally here, but even in these past few winter months, good things have been blossoming and growing here at The Open Pantry of Greater Lowell. We’ve been settled into our new space since October, and we are always updating and working on bringing about more positive changes. We warmly welcome several new people into our community—Paula Gendron and Veasna Mao Kang, our newest  Board members; Andrea Mason, Assistant Volunteer Coordinator; and Nicole Carpenter, Executive Assistant. We’d also like to welcome several new volunteers to the Pantry and remind our readers to look for our upcoming profiles highlighting our dedicated volunteers in our future publications. We were able to thank our volunteers by giving them gift cards to Brew'd Awakening Coffeehaus, our neighbor down the street who we are proud to partner with. Making our February even sweeter was the Valentine’s Day food drive held by LTC Lowell. The Open Pantry would like to thank all of its community partners.

Here’s a short update on our pantry operations... From January through March, we served an average of 1300 individuals, but that includes the short month of February. On average, the Pantry serves over 1500 people a month. We would also like to remind our clients of the handicap accessible entrance on 200 Central Street for clients with wheelchairs, strollers, shopping carts, and anyone who has difficulty with stairs.

Client Highlight

The Open Pantry loves to hear feedback from our clients. In December, we received a letter from client, Dennis Ambrose, wherein he gave The Open Pantry earnest thanks for “hams, chickens, sometimes a turkey…and vegetables.” We are glad to keep up the good work,” as he phrased it! We appreciate his kind words of support and care. Thank you, Dennis!

You Give More,
We Get More

The more contributions (financial or food) the Pantry receives in April, the more funds we receive from the Feinstein Foundation. Please help us raise funds and spread the word to your networks. Thank you!

Walking for Hunger

The Greater Lowell Walk for Hunger just took place and several of our board members and volunteers supported the event. Last year’s walk contributed a considerable amount to the Pantry. Thanks to everyone who participated this year.

Also, Save The Date for the upcoming Project Bread Walk for Hunger— Sunday, May 5th! This year, one of our board members, Mary Emanuel, is participating in the walk. Please drop by The Open Pantry during our open hours, call 978-453-6693 or email if interested in supporting Mary.
