Discipleship With Or Without Your Spouse
A new adult Bible study class begins Sunday evening, September 4 at 6:00 p.m. Bible Expositors, our existing adult classes, will continue to offer separate men's and women's classes focusing on digging into the text. Our new Bible Explorers class, mixed with men and women, will focus on practical Bible application. See all our classes online.
New Bible Studies Start September 7
You have several options for Wednesday Bible studies. Adults will be learning to live in the life lessons of Proverbs in the sanctuary. Women have an optional video series by Beth Moore meeting in the young adult classroom. Registration is required by signing up in the foyer or calling the church office. Children age 4 through 6th grade will be starting TeamKID, a children's discipleship class. Youth will continue to meet in the fellowship hall for a Bible study and activity.
Every Member Matters Sunday - September 25
Vacations, illness, homework, car repair ... there are times when you just have to miss church. But your church misses you when you are gone!! With the frolic of summer behind us, let's get together for a special every-member-Sunday to remember how great it is to be together again! We will enjoy a Sunday of great worship during our 10:30 a.m. service and a meal together afterwards. Call those who have been missing and bring enough food for your family and a few more and stay to remember that every member matters!
Pulpit Series Examines Worship for Evangelism
Are tongues part of modern worship? What should be included in corporate worship? Is the gospel a value to the saved on Sunday morning? What if I feel unworthy? Join us each Sunday morning as we survey 1 Corinthians. This troubled church has much to teach us about healthy Christianity. We are closing out the book learning about our relationship with worship. Remember you can always listen online to catch up.
Sharing the Gospel - Telling the Church
We have shared the gospel with 51 people during our evangelism campaign for the year! Don't forget to pray toward and seize those opportunities this week to tell others about Jesus. Then call the evangelism hotline at 281-968-4769 so our staff can pray and we can celebrate with the whole church on Sunday.
Many have suggested that our BDBC evangelism emphasis this year is unnecessary. "Evangelism is something our preacher does," or "I'm not smart enough to answer people's Bible questions." These and other responses minimize the urgency to reach people with the gospel. But sharing our faith is no longer optional.
It is generally agreed that church attendance is on the decline all across the US. Leonard explains a possible reason why. With the lack of evangelistic crusades, "What’s emerged ...is a fragmented understanding of the plan of salvation.... Churches have to re-learn to tell the Jesus story in ways that get the attention of an increasingly secular society and make the case for why an experience of Jesus is not just important but meaningfully necessary." Pastor Works on PhD - Bro. Shawn announced in morning worship on August 7 that he was starting work toward his PhD. Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary has a new school of preaching that emphasizes exposition. This degree will take at least six years. He will be traveling to the Fort Worth area several times each semester to fulfill some of the requirements.
Bonnie Little's Brother in Heaven - Dave Holleway, Bonnie's brother, passed away at age 79 in Columbus, Texas on August 20. Just a few weeks before his passing, Dave made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ! While we grieve with Bonnie, we are so excited that she will see him again one day!
Pray for the Persecuted - One of our missionaries in a dangerous African country is fighting a battle for ownership of the property. An angry group is claiming it as their own. Under threat and accusation, he was arrested for trespass in August but released. Please remember to pray for missions, give financially as God allows, and keep updated by reading missionary letters online. (Names have been withheld for safety. Some missionary letters are not posted online by their request.)
Lohen Gonzalez is Home - It was a joy to have Lohen and Becky Gonzalez, our missionaries in Chile, back in the US for a while. They have both made it back to Santiago and are doing well. Continue to pray for Lohen's citizenship. He has an immigration lawyer working through the details and he might qualify by this time next year. Keep praying.
Barnes Family Sells House - We are excited that Michael and Betsy have sold their house and are moving to Alvin. This is such a great blessing to our church as Michael continues to work with our youth. The trustees have offered for Michael and Betsy to park their RV at the church for the next several months while they look for a house in the area.
