Dear Customer/Partner,

Welcome to our first Newsletter 2015!
It is with great pleasure I invite you to our Newsletter filled with interesting articles and stories. A lot has happened in Shapeline’s flat world during the last couple of months, and we try to capture this in this edition.
  • ShapeCAT, a new Product Platform has been born. ShapeCAT has the core of a completely unique high-resolution camera, with integrated computing power, which enables a totally new era of Flatness and Shape measurements. We have already installed two new systems with the ShapeCAT platform at an Asian steel plate mill, and we have one more system to be delivered shortly. A tremendously successful start, and more news is to come!
  • Shapeline has stepped into the rapidly growing Aluminum industry, supporting the aluminum mills growth with Plate and Strip applications for Quality Control as well as Process Control. Everything driven by the aerospace and automotive industries’ needs.
  • Returning customers - SSAB and Sandvik have ordered new systems! This is a sign of mutual trust and that we can help our customers to create value.
We have also started a series of articles on what to think about when buying flatness systems and how to make money from them. The first is a Flatness Project Guide for steel and metal mills and the second is a paper on profitable applications for Electro-galvanizing lines.
Happy reading!

Yours Sincerely,
Magnus Titus

Flatness Project Guide and EGL Article Available

Shapeline has recently published a guide about flatness systems projects and an article about electro-galvanized steel production. The flatness project guide covers all important aspects, guidelines and best practices to consider when purchasing and installing a new flatness measurement system. In the article about electro-galvanized steel production you will find a complete presentation of the production process, case studies and quantified benefits of flatness measurement in the process.

Both documents are available free of cost. Please request the documents by sending an email to

US aluminum producer orders the first optical flatness gauge from Shapeline

An American automotive aluminum producer in the US has placed an order for one Shapeline flatness measurement system.

The laser based gauges are based on Shapeline new technical solution ShapeCAT, designed to measure over 1000 precise, vibration compensated flatness profiles per second. The data will be used for process adjustments as well as to detect very small flatness defects to ensure that a flatter strip will be supplied to the end customers.

SSAB Europe Oy (former RUUKKI), Finland, orders a second Shapeline system

SSAB’s steel plant in Raahe, Finland, has ordered a new Shapeline flatness system, following a preceding order two years ago. The new system will be installed in a cold leveling line for quality control of the plates.

Raahe steel mill in Finland produces high-strength steels for different types of applications, for instance automotive and mining industries, lifting and transportation equipment. The high quality requirements for these products also reflect on the high demands on flatness.
