From The Executive Director

Spring Is In The Air!

Lynn Mackenzie - Light the LegacyLynn MacKenzie - Executive Director
Spring is here! Every year at this time, I find myself eager to see the blooms that will blossom from the bulbs I planted in the fall, take the first breath of the fresh morning air, and hear the sweet sounds of the birds chirping and signaling a bright new day. It seems Spring Fever has struck Light the Legacy as well, with the installation of three new esteemed board members who have generously donated their time and talent. We have also hired a new development director to assist in supporting the tremendous amount of growth we have realized with our education and training programs. I'd like to take this opportunity to present these new members of the Light the Legacy team, and share with you a few updates on the work we are currently doing to honor life's choices in Central Minnesota.

Welcome New Board Members

We are pleased to have added three new board members to the Light the Legacy family. Welcome aboard and thank you so much for your service!

Edith Hernandez-Fussy - Hernandez Law Firm
Joy Hornung, CPA - Clifton Larson Allen
George Schoephoerster, MD  - Collaboration with CentraCare Clinic

Development Director Hired

On behalf of the entire board of directors, I am pleased to introduce our new development director, Lisa Chernick.  Lisa comes with over 24 years of high-level nonprofit experience with national organizations such as Alzheimer’s Association and Boys & Girls of America.  Recently moving to Central Minnesota from Chicago, she resides in Long Prairie. We are grateful to have her expertise and passion. Be sure to check out the Q&A with Lisa in this newsletter for more information.

In Closing
Light the Legacy has big things planned for this spring, and with the new talent provided by our new additions, we are confident you will be hearing
many more great things as the year progresses. I wish you all the very best and hope your spring brings great things. Blessings to you!

Q&A With New Development Director

Lisa Chernick

After much consideration, Light the Legacy chose to hire Lisa Chernick to act as our new development director. She brings so much to the table, and we thought that a short Q&A with Lisa would help demonstrate just how much she brings, and what her plans are to progress our mission and vision.

What brought you to Light of the Legacy?
As a result of several personal and professional experiences, advance care planning has become increasing more important to me. The community-based aspect of Light the Legacy and how they have become a convener of many communities resonates with me. I think it is vitally important to use our voice to communicate our final wishes while we still are empowered to do so.

How will you assist in the advancement of our mission?
I believe my years of experience in branding and fundraising will only enhance the strong Foundation that has already been established thus far.

In the short time you have been with us, what has been your most impactful experience?
I have had so many wonderful experiences, from working and getting know the board and their vast knowledge in this area. However if I had to choose one, it would be going through the Advanced Care Planning Facilitator training program. It was truly a life-changing experience, providing me practical knowledge through the role-playing exercises and thought provoking conversations. As an added bonus, I even got a certificate!
