I Charleston Nottingham, 22 & 23 March 2014
I Charleston Nottingham!

This weekend - Saturday 22 & Sunday 23 March

Hello everyone!  We've been talking about it and practising in class, sharing clips and information on Twitter and Facebook and now we're just one sleep away from getting underway.
This Saturday and Sunday, weather permitting, all the swing dance groups in Nottingham are coming together to start filming our very own 'I Charleston...' video!!
Still not sure what an 'I Charleston ...' video is?
Well, several were made by the amazing Ninjammerz and SwingJammerz as they toured the world teaching, now the idea has spiralled and individuals, small groups and whole swing communities all over the globe are filming themselves Charleston-ing their socks off all over their fair towns and cities.
Here are some of the clips I've been sharing on Twitter (@nottmlindyhop) and Facebook this week:

PLAYLIST ALERT!  Just too many to mention ... there are so very many more, and they're all fab, so I've put together a playlist on YouTube so that you can watch them at your leisure. ENJOY :-)
Here's a quick run down of the meeting points for this weekend. Come and join us at any time!

KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR NEWS!!  Over the weekend we will be also updating the Facebook event page as well as Twitter (@swingsoc and @nottmlindyhop) as we go, so keep an eye out for changes due to weather - this is England; it's been known to rain - or other unforeseen circumstances ... but definitely come out and join the fun!!
Saturday – 22 March
09:30 – Meet at Wollaton Hall
11:00 – Meet at Portland Building, University of Nottingham

14:00 – Workshop in the Atrium, Portland Building, University of Nottingham
This is a casual workshop going over basic moves, a few jazz steps and some solo Charleston and is open for anyone who is taking part to come along.

21:00 - Not part of the filming but for those with some energy left who want to keep dancing the night away Manieres des Bohemiens are playing at Nottingham Contemporary Cafe Bar on Saturday night from 9pm - Free Entry

Sunday – 23 March
10:00 – Meet at Market Square - Brian the Left Lion (to film at Lace Market)
12:00 – Meet at Market Square - Brian the Left Lion (to film in the square)
13:00 – Lunch break at Malt Cross (approx break time)
15:00 – Meet at the Robin Hood Statue (by Castle Gate) and then onto the canal.

17.30 - Nottingham Lindy Hop classes with Lisa and Martin at The Old School Hall, Green's Windmill, Windmill Lane, Sneinton with possible social dancing into the evening - we'll play it by ear folks depending on the energy levels left at the end of the day :-).

What to wear?  Dress up warm, dry and comfortable (definitely bring a brolly), but feel free to be as fancy as you like (or not).  A little bit of a colour is always a good thing but most of all be happy and bring your smiles and dancing feet :-)

All are welcome - even if you're a bit nervous or unsure, do come along to show your support, watch bags, cheer us on, clap in the background and you never know you might soon be dancing around with the rest of us.  It's all about having fun and enjoying what we love - I can't wait!
And finally a big thanks to Nottingham University Swing Society for being the driving force and doing much of the organising for this event - you are stars!

See you this weekend!

Lisa xx
