December 2015
Greetings Mercyhurst Parents,
It seems as if this semester has flown by, we think that's probably because of all the fun we've been having here at Mercyhurst - you know the saying, time flies when you're having fun! Of course great work has been going on as well; the students are hard at their studies right now as the "dreaded" finals week is coming up!
We hope you enjoy the December eNewsletter, it is full of opportunities to get connected, information and dates that are important for you to know, and a little look into the lives of our Lakers.
As always, feel free to contact us at if there is anything we can help you with, if our office cannot, we will direct you to the appropriate person!
Merry Christmas to you and your students, we hope to see you sometime in 2016!

This is a great way to show your love of Mercyhurst by collecting the special keepsakes of some of our favorite campus spots. Hint hint, they also make GREAT Christmas gifts!

Please save the date for a fun weekend on the campus of Mercyhurst University: March 11-13, 2016. Join us for a chance to meet President Victor, fun family time, "Kids n Sibs" activities, and a chance to take a look into the campus life of our Lakers!
Please check your mail and email for a formal invitation in the next coming months.
Online registration will open on Jan. 18.

Living the Mission

President Victor and his cabinet served lunch to the patrons of our local Emmaus Soup Kitchen in late November, this was a part of the administration's personal commitment to service! President Victor stated "If you believe deep down inside that something is important, you have to live it; words can be hollow without action...I believe in service and I believe in leading by example."

The cabinet does just that each day, and their service is one great example of their great leadership!

A New Tradition-Hurst Day 2015

On Oct. 7, the campus of Mercyhurst looked a little different: students sprinting and gathering clues, bouncing obstacle courses, a rock climbing wall, a dunk tank, steak dinner, and a day off of classes took place for the first annual Hurst Day! Check out the video by clicking the image below or visiting Mercyhurst's YouTube page here to relive all the moments of this new and special tradition for Mercyhurst students!

"Miracle on 38th Street"

Next week, Mercyhurst students will participate in "Miracle on 38th Street," a program coordinated by the Campus Involvement Center, Multicultural Affairs, Service Learning, and Campus Ministry offices.

Nearly 35 children from local service agencies will visit the Carolyn Herrmann Student Union for this annual event. The children will be paired with a Mercyhurst student "buddy" to lead him or her through Christmas activities, arts and crafts, snack time, and of course a visit and some gifts from Santa Claus.
This is a great service opportunity for our Lakers but also a great reminder of what the Christmas season is all about!

Academic Restructuring

A new change has been made to Mercyhurst academic structure with the formation of four new colleges, each with a full-time administrative dean. This restructuring process is a part of President Victor's efforts to streamline operations, improve efficiency, and ensure accountability.
The new colleges and their respective deans are:
  • Zurn College of Natural and Health Sciences, Dean Michael Elnitsky
  • Ridge College of Intelligence Studies and Applied Sciences, Dean James Breckenridge
  • Hafenmaier College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences, Dean Leanne Roberts
  • Walker College of Business and Management, Dean Raj Parikh

You can read the full story on the restructuring here

Student eBills have a new look

On September 25, 2015 the look of the student’s eBill changed. It was updated for a more streamlined look and simpler navigation. Students can now:
-View account summary
-View current statements as well as statement history
-Make one-time payments
-Set up a payment plan through Tuition Management Services (TMS)
-Make payments on their TMS payment plans
J-Term spring term bills can be viewed in early December. If you haven’t already done so, please encourage your son or daughter to give you “shared access” on the Mercyhurst eBill system.  By having “shared access”, you will be able to view and pay the bill online, as well as receive notifications of any billing changes.  Students can set up shared access by clicking on the Manage Account Access button once they link to their eBill.
Each time an eBill is updated, an email will be sent to the student as well as other authorized users.  The email will include a link to the Mercyhurst eBill site.  You will be glad you took the time to be part of this valuable shared information.
