Supporting Bible translation in Papua New Guinea through
computer support and health care
April 2019

The United Nations Declares 2019 the International Year of Indigenous Languages (IYIL2019)

"Languages play a crucial role in our daily lives. They are not only our first medium for communication, education and social integration, but are also at the heart of each person's unique identity, cultural history and memory" (www.un.org).

We are so excited to continue to serve in Papua New Guinea, the most culturally and linguistically diverse country in the world, with over 800 languages!!! When people read or hear God's Word in their own language, it speaks to them on a deep emotional and spiritual level. One woman, after reading the Bible in her own language for the first time put it this way, reading the Bible in another language was like eating a banana with the peeling on, but reading it in her own language was like peeling it and tasting it's sweetness for the first time!

Andrew and his co-workers handle the internet connection, email, wireless services, and a lot more that is too geeky for most. Melody is Nurse Practitioner and, together with the team of doctors and nurses at the clinic, handles things that are too gross for most. =) We are not translators or linguists, be we directly support those who are. Computers are the translator's primary tool for Bible Translation and everybody, at some point, gets sick or injured. Together we help to keep people and computers healthy so that there are fewer interruptions in Bible Translation.

We are excited to go back in July!! Please continue to pray for the rest of the resources and monthly partnerships to come together! We are so thankful to each person and church on our ministry team and we invite any others who want to contribute to getting the Word of God into the hands and hearts of more Papua New Guineans to JOIN OUR TEAM!!
"After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, and with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, 'Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!'"
Revelation 7:9-10

Encouraged (and Financial Update)

We are so encouraged from our visits with existing and new prayer and financial partners on the West Coast!! And we look forward to our visits with partners on the East Coast, as we leave next week to start that 3 1/2 week trip. Our trip will end in Orlando, Florida, to attend The Wycliffe Connection, including meetings and a time to connect with and debrief with other Wycliffe missionaries.

Encouragement has come in many forms--gifts, conversations, affirmations, notes and letters, smiles, prayers, questions and interest, people loving on our kids, and new friendships.

We plan to return to PNG July 8. Would you join us in praying that our financial need would be met by May 31? In order for Wycliffe to release us to return to our assignments in Papua New Guinea our monthly shortfall needs to be met. That monthly shortfall is now just $400 per month. We are encouraged by new and increased giving and by your prayers. Thank you!
Lots of fun on our trips! Visiting family, ministry partners and friends!
  • For health and great visits with family and ministry partners during our West Coast trip!!
  • For times of renewal, refreshment, and encouragement.
Prayer Requests:
  • For our upcoming trip to visit family and ministry partners on the East Coast, ending with the Wycliffe Connection in Orlando (April 23-May 17).
  • That our time in Waxhaw, North Carolina at JAARS (during out trip) where we will shop for and put together a shipment of clothing and supplies will go smoothly and be productive.
  • For God's Holy Spirit to continue to strengthen us and speak through us.
  • For His provision of the remaining monthly need of $400 by May 31.
