Peter's Message

Dear sisters and brothers in Christ,

This Sunday is one of my favourites in the Church calendar: the Feast of Christ the King.  On this day, we celebrate and proclaim Christ's sovereignty over all creation. Amidst the changes, uncertainties and worries of the world, this is a festival from which we can draw immense strength and encouragement.

My very best wishes to you all for this weekend, and I look forward to seeing many of you as we gather together for our worship.

With my very best wishes and every blessing,

Peter

The Offering (Collection) Plate
From next Sunday (27th November) we shall return to having the Offering Plate taken up to the altar so that the gifts in it can be blessed during the offertory hymn (after the peace).

However, we shall not be passing the plate around during the hymn.  Instead, please place your offering in the plate before the service starts.  The plate will be on the table in front of the pillar near the south porch door.

The plate won't be by the south porch at the end of the service, but don't worry if you forget to put your offering in before we start - just speak to a sidesperson after the service and they can ensure that your offering is included with the rest.
Hot Meals Project
Do you know any individuals, couples or families that need a hot meal due to their circumstances?

If so, then this scheme is for them. You can nominate recipients for the scheme by calling 07774944324 or through St. Mary’s Church Office on 01844 273300. Those nominated will then be issued with a voucher entitling them to a hot meal at the Crew Café, Wades Park from 4.30pm Monday to Saturday.

Fellowship Walking Group
Join us for the last walking group of this year! Meet on Burton Lane at 10am on Weds 30 November (please note this later time for the winter months). There will be no walk in December. For more information, please contact Mick or Anne White (01844346536).
Christingles - help needed
We need your help constructing Christingles! If you can spare some time on Saturday 3 December, then please get in touch with Rosemary Woodward-Court (01844 344417), who would love to hear from you!
One Can Trust and Bucks Vision
The One Can Trust are trying to create bags that enable families to make a nutritious meal. All donations for the food cupboard are welcome. Sources of protein (e.g. tinned meat, tinned fish, lentils etc.) are especially needed. In addition, items such as tinned tomatoes and cook-in sauces will ensure people can where possible prepare meals of their choice.

You can also donate your used stamps, which raises money for Bucks Vision. With the Christmas card season approaching, this would be a good time to begin collecting! If you want any more information, please get in touch with Rosemary Woodward-Court on 01844 344417.

Christmas Tree Festival

Volunteers needed

We need people to help on our plant stall and to serve refreshments. If you are able to help on Saturday 10-12, 12-2, 2-4 or on Sunday 12-2, 2-4 please see Cathy Farquhar in church or call her on 01844 343226. Thank you! Avril also needs someone to help on her stalls, so please let her know if and when you'd be happy to help.

Jams and Pickles needed
We are also looking for jams and pickles for a stall. If you have any which you could donate, please bring them to church and place them in a basket in the porch so that they can be collected and stored. Many thanks!

Cakes needed
We're looking for cakes for a stall! Please let Avril Neighbour know if you can contribute, and bring them to church on Friday 25 Nov.

The next session is on 23 November. It's a place for Ukrainians to learn and practise speaking English over a cuppa and some cake. Please contact Caroline Godden for more details.

Lighthouse Quiz

With the evenings drawing in, why not challenge yourself to a quiz?! The Lighthouse Quiz is now available for the small cost of £1 from Anne White.  All proceeds go towards Lighthouse 2023, a holiday week for children run by Christians from local churches.

Prayers and reflections
Please pray for...
  • The people of Ukraine - we pray for peace, for an end to the conflict, and for safety for the Ukrainian people.
  • Leaders who have attended the COP27 summit, that they would take seriously the need to change our habits, protect our world, and make real and visible commitments to tackling climate change.
  • Those struggling with the cost of living crisis and facing a winter of rising energy bills and food costs. We pray for the work of international, national and local organisations who are working to bring much-needed relief.
  • The work of BBC Children in Need, and pray that the £35million which has been raised this year might transform and bring support to the lives of many.
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time, and those who grieve them.
Don't forget that Canon Rob's reflections can be found on the church website by clicking the button below.
