Peter's Message

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

It's been a great week of seeing many of you around in the parish this week, most recently at the wonderful Lunch Club on Friday. This weekend we have three Sunday services at which we can gather to grow together in fellowship and faith, as we mark the great feast of St Thomas the Apostle.  I hope you can join us as we join to be nourished in word and sacrament for the week ahead.

Every blessing,

Peter

Lighthouse

Please keep spreading the news about Lighthouse Activity Week!
Monday 25 - Friday 29 July, Princes Risborough.

There is still a huge need for both adults and teenagers to volunteer in all sorts of roles - from ticketing taking and registration, to those who work with the children through the week. If there aren't more volunteers soon, there will have to be a cut-off for the number of children they can take on; conversely, for every extra adult and 3 teenagers, they can let in 15 more children!

Lighthouse Volunteers Info
Lighthouse also particularly need volunteers who can help set up, maintain and dismantle the site between 21 July - 2 August (and especially 21-23 July). You can find out more about the jobs involved by clicking on the button below. Please get in touch with Roger Arthey if you are able to help.

Church Charitable Giving

As part of our life of Christian witness, we as a church aim to give 10% of our annual income each year to charitable causes. The PCC oversee this process, including which charities the church supports in this way.

The PCC therefore wishes to invite members of the congregation to consider the charities which we have most recently supported (listed below), and to invite you to nominate any charities – local or national – that you would like to be considered as part of a review of this list that the PCC will undertake in September.

Current list of charitable beneficiaries

  • Anorexia and Bulimia Care (ABC)
  • Bucks Historic Churches Trust
  • Christian Aid
  • The Pace Centre
  • The Princes Centre
  • Rennie Grove House Hospice Care
  • The Whitechapel Mission

Please submit any nominations, together with a very brief suggestion of why you wish to nominate that charity, to Sue Ingram by Monday 15th August.

Volunteers Needed

10 O’Clock Club Leaders
A joyful, vital part of our life as a church is our 10 O’clock Club: the teaching and activities for young people that take place in our Hall during our Sunday Parish Eucharist.  Here our children receive age-specific teaching and encouragement that enables them to grow in the knowledge and love of Jesus.

We are in real need of new leaders to join our team.  Is God calling you to play a part in this important part of our life? If you’re interested, please contact Debbie Norie or Peter our Vicar.

All leaders will require a DBS check, and will receive training for the role.

Quinquennial Action Team
Every five years, church buildings undergo a ‘Quinquennial Inspection’ by a surveyor, who then produces a report of works that are recommended to be undertaken. Our recent Quinquennial surveys for both St Dunstan’s and St Peter’s were excellent, with little major work to be done. However, we do have jobs to be undertaken, to ensure that our beautiful buildings continue to be kept in the best condition. Please contact Mick White or Paul Woodward-Court if you would like to be part of the team that arranges for these works to be completed.
Lifts to/from church
We still need volunteers who can help provide lifts to/from church either on a regular basis or ad hoc. If you can help, please email Cathy Farquhar, who can tell you more.

Prayers and reflections
Please pray for...
  • The work of campaigners, charities and organisations working to combat terminal illnesses, and especially for the legacy of Dame Deborah James and others like her who have done so much to raise awareness and provide support.
  • The situation in Ukraine: for peace, for renewal, for the reuniting of families, for freedom, for help and support for those suffering trauma and devastation.
  • Our local community as the Princes Risborough Festival brings people together.
  • Those struggling to make ends meet as costs of living rise, and for the work of charities, food banks and other organisations which seek to offer support.
  • Those whose anniversary of death falls at this time, and those who grieve them.
Don't forget that Canon Rob's reflections can be found on the church website by clicking the button below.
