Dear <<First Name>>,

Spring is in the air and even though still fresh, the brighter days are definitely here. We are working hard behind the scenes in preparation for the Velo-city Conference to take place in June and the BusConnects project plans under consultation at the moment. We are trying to get our voices heard and be present in as many meetings as possible to make sure cyclists are not left behind in the final design of the different roads. There will be Public Meetings held as well, so stay tuned for updates and dates and locations on this!

As St Patrick's Day come closes, we are hands in action planning this year's parade. Come to our next Public Meeting this Monday 11th February at 7pm, at the Central Hotel on Exchequer Street. And if you can make it to the parade and would like be involved, check out all the details here and get in touch with Donna

The Liffey Cycle protest will NOT go ahead this Sunday 10th February. We are thinking about how to build this event and align it to our other campaigns. It’s an really important event for us in the Dublin Cycling Campaign and want to make a big effort during the Spring / Summer months to get people out on the cycle. We are planning to have our next Liffey Cycle protest in April so keep an eye out for updates and ..

Happy Cycling!

If you have lots of ideas for how to develop engagement and participation, and would like to get involved, please send an email to info@dublincycling.ie with Volunteer Coordinator in the subject line. Feel free to have a chat about the role with committee members at our meetings. Deadline: 29th March

Free the Cycle Lanes Rally at City Hall, Cork - this Monday!

We urge everyone who can make it to support Cork Cycling Campaign's 'Free the Cycle Lanes Rally at City Hall' taking place this Monday 11th February at 5pm. Join them outside City Hall to greet Councillors as they arrive to vote on whether to protect Cork's cycle lanes from illegal parking and dangerous drivers. The more cyclists outside City Hall, the greater the likelihood that councillors will vote to protect cyclists' safety. Your presence shows that parking in cycle lanes and cycling infrastructure is a vital concern for cyclists. Full details of the event can be found here

Cross Border Cycling Routes Advance

Our colleague Ronan Gallagher in Derry has given us a brief update on the major North West cross-border Interreg project, which is 85% funded by the EU. Work is continuing apace.
  • Lifford to Strabane shared greenway 6.7 km cycle path across the border bridge – the Part 8 planning has been completed; and approval from Donegal County Council is awaited (construction to commence December 2019).
  • Muff to Derry 10.5 km route – planning notification issued by Derry City & Strabane District Council in December 2018; Donegal County Council to publish Part 8 on or before 31 March 2019; council approval is due May 2019.
  • Buncrana to Derry 32.5 km route – further consultation event took place on 7 February with the emerging preferred route to be published April 2019.
As usual there have been difficulties with landowners, but overall the local population are behind the proposals and work is going ahead. So, if you're up Derry way in the coming years be sure to check out the new routes!
