Gift Membership of Dublin Cycling Campaign

The best present you can give your cycling friends this Christmas is the gift of better cycling conditions on Dublin's roads - and the easiest way to achieve that (with just €20) is to give them gift membership of Dublin Cycling Campaign! That contribution, in turn, supports the ENDLESS work we do on cycling advocacy and lobbying - we can run more events, get more publicity, influence more decision-makers, push safer cycling up the political agenda, get more investment in cycling - and thereby improve cycling conditions for all.

The easiest way to get our gift membership pack is to pop along to our Christmas party on Monday 14th December in the Central Hotel. See you there!

People's Climate March in Dublin

On Sunday 29 November, we took part in the People's Climate March in Dublin which was organised by Stop Climate Chaos. This was just before the UN's COP21 conference in Paris, which for the first time in over 20 years of UN negotiations, aim to achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate, with the aim of keeping global warming below 2°C.

How does cycling come into all of this? Well in SEAI's Energy in Ireland - Key Statistics 2014, regarding CO2 emissions in 2013 the transport sector was responsible for 34%. This is a growth of 109% since 1990 with an annual average increase of 3.2%. The CSO National Travel Survey showed that 19% of trips by car were less than 2 km. That distance could be comfortably cycled in around 10 minutes.

With the approach of 2020 and Ireland's modal-split for daily cycling trips at a mere 1.6% rather than the 10% target, it is time to put the pressure on our government and the Oireachtas to face up to their responsibilities to plan seriously for the decarbonisation of the transport system. Please sign Uplift's petition to support this call. Check out our Flickr page for more pictures of the day.

Dublin City Development Plan

Dublin Cycling Campaign have prepared a detailed submission to the City Council on the Draft Plan, and we have highlighted a large number of issues, the chief among them being:
- The need for a clear Vison for the City in relation to cycling and walking for people of all ages;
- The need for more 30 km/h slower vehicle speed zones to encourage the growth of walking and cycling;
- The need to develop innovative methodologies for continuous and greater engagement with citizens;
- The need to consider and detail the Health & Wellbeing of our citizens as a core element of the Plan;
- The need to have clear and measurable monitoring targets and reports on all aspects of the Plan.
Check out our full submission online at and why not make your own individual submission to support any of our proposals? The latest Draft is opened for your comments up to 5pm on this coming Friday 11th December.

We have partnered with to make it easier to let Dublin City Council know that we want our city of the future to be far more walkable and far more bikeable. We can all shape our city's future today! Follow the link below to the easy submission process for the Dublin City Development Plan 2026-22

We Want Your Cycling
Image of 2015!

Next Monday night, as you may know, we are having our annual 'knees up' to celebrate Christmas in a kind of cycling way! Why not come along and be part of the FUN! We are inviting YOU to submit a maximum of 3 images that tell a bit of a personal 2015 cycling story! Hopefully it might be a bit humorous and put smiles on people's faces! But it could also be a mini-disaster or a recurring nightmare!? You make the choice! Submit the image(s), ideally with text, to us at by Friday next 11th December, with your name and hopefully you will be along to present it yourself on the evening.
And don't forget that as usual we will have the famous 'One for Everyone in the Audience' annual fun raffle, as well as some festive fare, and the chance to mix and match with the usual motley crew of cycling enthusiasts and better city advocates!
What's not to like!? See You There!

Bringing Cycling Advocacy up a Gear - ECF Training for in Ljubljana

The European Cyclists’ Federation has recognised as one of the most effective national cycling advocacy associations of its size in Europe. It is, to use the cliché, punching above its weight and making the voice of the everyday Irish cyclist heard.

In the last week in November 2015, National Cycling Coordinator Dr. Damien Ó Tuama travelled to the lovely city of Ljubljana in Slovenia to join representatives from Iceland, Finland, Sweden, France, Spain, Italy, Greece, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia for the latest ECF training sessions and workshops.
