HEALTHY ACTIVE LIFESTYLES ONKAPARINGA
Our Healthy Active Lifestyles Onkaparinga program is designed to help our community to 'Find Your 30'. Thirty minutes per day of moderate to intense physical activity is what's recommended under Australia's Physical Activity and Sedentary Behaviour Guidelines.

We hope our newsletter will assist you in finding free or low cost ways to increase your physical activity.

NEW - Willunga Basin Trail

Now Open

The Willunga Basin Trail is a 130km bus walking trail and is now open for the community to enjoy.

An amazing, volunteer-driven initiative, the new trail traverses the townships of McLaren Vale, McLaren Flat, Kangarilla and Willunga as well as the coastal suburbs of Aldinga, Port Willunga, Maslin Beach and Moana - showcasing a diverse landscape of bushland, forests, vineyards, almond groves, parks and beaches.

Through varied terrain and graded either moderate hike (grade 3) or hard hike (grand 4), sections can be walked in two to 5.5 hours and the whole trail can be walked over 5 days or 11 half-day walks. For more information...

If you enjoy exercising in a group with a personal trainer and being outdoors in a welcoming environment, then this could be for you.

All sessions provide alternative exercises making them accessible to all fitness levels and suitable for adults of all ages. We have five different locations and bookings are essential.  For more information...

Roger Rasheed Sports Foundation

The Roger Rasheed Sports Foundation (RRSF) is collaborating with the City of Onkaparinga to provide free sport and recreation programs for our local community, based at Niipu-niipu Wama (Morton Park) at Christie Downs.

These sport and recreation programs run after school and also during school holidays, are open to anyone aged 6-16 years, and are totally free!

Walking Football (soccer)

Walking Football is a low-impact game with modified rules (no running or physical contact). While particularly beneficial for players aged over 50, everyone's welcome to play.

No need to book - you can just turn up, learn the rules and introduce yourself to the game. First session is free and if you like it, you can join a social competition on Wednesday mornings at Noarlunga Recreation Centre. For further information...

Movement and being active

Being active everyday is really important for leading happy and healthy lives. There are many ways we can incorporate physical activity throughout our day. Wellbeing SA has great ideas on how you can do this, either on your own, with family or with friends.

parkrun 

parkrun is a FREE weekly 5km timed walk, jog or run held every Saturday at 8am and we have five locations within our city. Its a great community event run by volunteers and is open to everyone of all abilities and ages.

Heart Foundation Walking

Walking has many benefits to both our physical and mental health. Walking for an average of 30 minutes or more a day can lower the risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes by 30% to 40%.

Sport and Active Recreation Grants

Sport and Active Recreation Grants recognise and support individuals and groups who reside in the City of Onkaparinga and who have been selected to compete in sporting and active recreation events, more than 250km away.

Grants of up to $1500 for groups, and up to $150 for individuals are available.
