Mayors Message

Welcome to spring - a fantastic time of year when the sun reappears, trees blossom and the streets look lively and green again. Spring’s also the perfect time for people in our communities to become more physically active, which means it’s a busy time for clubs.

In this edition, we’re looking at the importance of having the appropriate insurance for your organisation, following a spate of unfortunate events for some of our local clubs. It’s a timely reminder to review your cover, including contents, public liability and committee and volunteer cover.

In the coming months, our city’s not-for-profit sport and active recreation groups will be invited to provide feedback on a number of local and state projects. These include a state-wide leasing guide for Local Government, a sport and active recreation research project, and details on levels of service for club development, which are associated with the review of council’s Sport and Active Recreation Strategy. This is another chance for you to get involved in shaping the future of sport and recreation in Onkaparinga.

Finally, congratulations to all the winter sports finalists!

I look forward to watching our sports grounds, leisure centres and other venues swell with passionate club members over the coming spring and summer months.

Mayor Erin Thompson
