We have raised a total of $14,648.42 toward the $16,000 match. We are so close with only a few days left. We would appreciate anything that you can do to help us out with it. Click here to give to the Project Funds.

As we began a new year we thought we would give you an update on where we have come the last year and give a little preview of what is coming in 2017.

We started the year by adding a Program Director to the staff to oversee all the outreach programs that we have at GECHAAN. We had the Leadership Summit with 28 people in attendance. Each person that attended went away with tools to help them be a better leader whether it be Church, Business or Government. We purchased 15 Grasscutters to begin a program to help widows.

February 1 we opened as a hospital with 24/7 care. With some remodeling, we were able to have 21 beds in 3 wards and 3 semi-private rooms.

In April the new Pharmacy building was finished with over 4 times the space of the old Pharmacy and a room for private consultations with patients. We also had a 5 day training for new AWANA leaders which launched 4 new clubs.

One of our goals is for each area that we work in to get to a point of Sustainability.  By mid-year the Hospital was to the point where the monthly expenses could be covered by the income. We still have a long way to go to be able to have funds to repair equipment or grow the staff, but progress has been made.

In July the security wall was completed around the entire compound.

In September we celebrated the arrival of the container of medical supplies! We also opened the family center with Kitchen and bath areas for patients’ family members.

In October new family toilets were finished and work on the new hospital building was started.

The 2 day Leadership Summit in November had 56 in attendance, again all that attended were very happy with the tools they left with. The new meeting hall and Technical Training Center was started.

2017 Preview:  The TTP Project started in January with 15 students and is off to a great start. In January and February, we will complete a Staff housing project with 6 efficiency apartments for Junior staff. The Hospital building will be completed around April. The Training Center should be done by September. We hope to add an Optometrist to our staff in March.  In March we will hold the first AWANA Olympics to be held in Nigeria. We will have another 5 day training for leaders in the Fall. Before year end we need to build a new Counseling Center.  We will have another Leadership Summit in November.

STAFF HIGHLIGHT

As we start the new year please keep all of the staff at GECHAAN in your prayers.  Everyone is stretched and many of the staff have been here less than a year so days can be a challenge.
