<<Salutation>>

Well, friends, it is time for another update from the Gibbs!  We have news!

Within the first ten days of Dan wearing the heart monitor an irregular heartbeat was detected and diagnosed as A-fib. This was allowing blood to pool in the lower part of the heart and clot. Now we know what caused the blood clot that went to his brain!  We are thankful this showed up when he was wearing the heart monitor and showed up so quickly.

Dan had an appointment with our primary care doctor and Cardiologist. The Cardiologist put Dan on a blood thinner that does not need to have any monitoring or diet changes and also a prescription for a drug that will slow down Dan’s heart if he goes into A-fib and his heart does not regulate itself in a timely manner.
Dan’s speech is improving, he still struggles with a few words and some slurred speech. His biggest challenge is a disconnect in spelling words. He has had 4 appointments with the speech therapist and today she said that he should cancel the rest of the appointments. He has the tools he needs and is improving so well he doesn’t need her help anymore, he just needs to keep using them.

We were at a church on Sunday and Dan spoke for about 15 minutes and it went well, we are very thankful for that!
We purchased tickets to go back to Nigeria and leave on November 14.  We are very excited to get back to Gembu soon!

We have been in close contact with our staff in Nigeria while we have been away and things are progressing well. This week they successfully hosted the Global Leadership Summit for the first time without us. We are very proud of the work they are doing there!

The plan is to send another container of supplies in the Summer of 2020 so we have started collecting for that purpose.  We have collected nearly 200 boxes of medical, Days for Girls, and teaching supplies.  We also have had an entire woodshop donated to GECHAAN, which we will be putting on the container.

We are working with the International Missions Team at Converge to determine what the best strategy is to have a greater impact in our area of Nigeria. Pray for us as we develop these plans.
