Merry Christmas/Happy New Year from Gembu, Nigeria!

We had hoped to have this to you sooner, but we have had challenges with Internet this month.

We have had a busy month and a lot of excitement here rounding up 2017.  World AIDS Day on December 1 was awesome!  We had the TV media here, many honored guests, and teaching and sensitization on AIDS and co-infections. We marched and had a wonderful program in which our first TTP students received their certificates for passing the Entrepreneurship test.  As the students move forward they will receive the certificate from their trainer that they are ready to have their own business, then receive their empowerment materials to start on their new life of moving forward! At least 5 will be graduating in January.

The second group of students will be starting their business classes in January and the third group will start working with their trainers!
The building continues and the wards are being used and used well.  The ward space has been a tremendous blessing. Not only is the space much needed but we have been able to control visiting hours easier, giving patients the much needed rest!  The addition to the Guest House will be completed next week giving us three more guest rooms and 1 more apartment for staff.

The Guest House and Restaurant are really moving forward and doing well under the new manager, Sunday.  We are so thankful for him and the staff doing a wonderful work there and helping that part of the ministry be self-sustainable and support further ministry opportunities here.

We have moved the reading and training program to the new training center as well as the Days for Girls Sewing materials and work.  We will have the Cyber Café on one side of the lower level of the hall and training classes in math, reading and Days For Girls on the other side.  We are excited for this wonderful building to be able to further our classes here.
Thank you for your partnership in ministry, we appreciate each prayer and dollar so much and God is multiplying it here.  We are so thankful to have been able to join God where He is working and see Him do what only HE can do! Thank you for allowing us to be your hands and feet here in Nigeria.  We look forward to see what God has for us in 2018!  We have our plans, but God is always surprising us as we move forward here!
As you plan your 2018 giving we want to remind you of a few opportunities at GECHAAN.

1) The TTP (Technical Training Program) is moving forward.  The cost per student is only $600, $50 per month, or $1.66 per day. This can be a special gift or monthly giving.  For less than 1 cup of coffee per day, you can change a life forever! We can even send you a picture and profile of the student so that you can pray for them!

2) We are in need of staff housing. For about $3,000 per room, we can build additional Studio apartments to house staff. We would like to build another 6 unit building.

3) The Remodeling of the building for a TB Ward will cost around $12,000 and is desperately needed to separate these highly infectious people from the other patients.

4) We would like to put together another container of medical supplies this year. Specifically items for the Surgical area of the hospital. We know that items are available so we just need to raise the money for a container, shipping, & duty. About $20,000.

If you would like to hear more about any of these opportunities or want to participate please reply and we will be happy to help you!

Our Staff Member of the month for December is Dr. Uche.  He is our eye-doctor and in March when the group from Edinbrook came Dr. Dave Sawyer worked with him and showed him how to use the equipment and the data base that the eye glasses are catalogued in.  Dr. Uche started in March and is working very hard at meeting the needs of our people here with the tools we have.  He is a much-needed member of the GECHAAN team!
