Wow another month gone! We have been busy here and the theme has been build! Each day we hear the buzz of saws, banging of hammers and so many other building noises. You see people painting, building fence, welding, putting up LED lighting, hauling block with wheelbarrows. Also, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week we now have Clients at the LifeLine Centre. There is much happening!
We are almost finished with the new pharmacy building we will ocupy it this month.
The security wall has been done on the front of the property but the rest has just been a wire fence. We have found that parts of this are rusting out and with the continued growth of the Clinic we fell that it is best to finish the brick wall around the compound. We have started this and will need about $6,000 to finish it. If you would like to donate click here.
The preliminary plans have been done for the new Hospital building. This will have pre-op, post-op, 2 operating rooms, waiting area, 4 bed intensive care unit. Men's & Women's changing rooms, scrub up, sterilization room, toilets, etc. and 5 wards with a total 34 beds. The cost for this building is about $53,000 with the current exchange rate. With about $20,000 more too completely outfit with beds, operating tables etc. We have had $10,000 Donated toward this building. If you would like to donate click here.
We will also be starting a building for families of patients to do some cooking, bathing and have some storage space. A family has provided the funds to build this.
Tina has been going to churches, Woman’s Schools, and Secondary Schools talking about Days for Girls and womens hygeine and reproductive health as well as supervising and training Odelia and Charlotte on kit production and quality. We are selling Days for Girls Kits in the Pharmacy and the word is getting out as well as information and training. She is preparing for another Seed Planters Training for new AWANA Clubs which will be held April 4 through 8. On April 9 we will have our one year celebration for our 30 existing AWANA Clubs in and around Gembu! She is encouraged about the 30 or so children that come for “reading club” three times a week where they are reading a book together as well as learning basics about reading and of course, playing games and having a little snack. She continues to do her youth bible study and teaching adult reading and writing to a staff member.
We are looking forward to being in the States for about 10 weeks and are excited to already have all of the Sundays scheduled to visit supporting churches and our friends and family as well as a week away just the two of us in Wisconsin Dells to re-group, plan, and refresh.
Art had a wonderful visit and was able to go to the area that several pastors are going through the TEE Program. Several churches are going along well. Several of the Pastors went to a village that no one had been to and preached. They had over 60 converts that were baptised and a new church was started.
Staff member of the month is Grace Sankun, Grace has been with GECHAAN
for 8 years. She is our Director of Programs and works on the many aspects of community outreach that we do here. Grace is married with 3 children, two in university and the youngest is just finishing up secondary school this year. Please pray for Grace as she helps us communicate with churches and community leaders and explores the different options we can serve the community here while we currently supervising several projects.
