November 13, 1849 - The voting for the new California Constitution held in San Jose counted the results of 13,000 votes from precincts. 11 precincts were in the San Joaquin District. The Ione/Jackson Valley precinct was at William Digges Buena Vista Ranch. 20 dedicated souls arrived and cast their votes. The votes were never counted as they reached San Jose too late…problem was defined as “isolationism”. The new legislators' first order of business was to form the counties of California. We would eventually have something to say about that. A lot to say about that…stay tuned!
