Read how Indigenous cultures are lived out!
January - March 2017

From vision to reality...

It is with great excitement that we share with you the incredible journey we continue to walk alongside our partner communities here in the Philippines. We have had the opportunity to live and learn with elders, youth ,and their wider communities, as they envision and design the desired future for the generations to come. We have also been blessed to have so many individuals and organizations dream with us on how best to support this growing movement of positive change. Thank you for the support you give. Come listen to the stories and be blessed yourself..

It takes a community to build a school

Panuluanan, the Ata school of cultural learning, is slowly taking shape. Last January, the community spent three days sharing stories of traditional architecture, and designed the cultural learning space collectively.
This March, the community hopes to start preparing the two-hectare land to begin building the foundation of the learning space, with the support of community-based architects from Swito Designs, and iEmergence.

Notes from the field

Our friend and learning partner, Sharon, shares how the two-week immersion in Northern Thailand, with four Indigenous youth from the Philippines, last year made her recognize and appreciate fully this sense of oneness we all have with each other.

Sharing the love, building a future!

In an evening filled with Indigenous music, arts and stories, people from varied walks of life gathered to hear and take part in building the dreams of the Ata people.

We've come a long way since the desire to create Panuluanan was born among the Ata tribe in Paquibato, Philippines. The design is now ready but we still need to do the actual construction of the traditional structures. Along with this, the community is also developing their own Indigenous curriculum to serve as their learning guide. We plan on visiting different villages in the area to identify various cultural mentors and resources, and to introduce Panuluanan to others in the area. Help us create this community-based curriculum by giving what you can.

You can also give in-kind donations like tools for construction and other materials. For a complete list of what Panuluanan needs in-kind, please send us a message here.
