Stories of love & miracles inspire us to grow inside

FEATURED CLASS

I started hooping as an escape, pretending to live in a cool, fun, creative world. I actually discovered my inner light and it became my reality.
We teach you the very fundamentals of hooping and we practice in fun creative ways each week for you to discover your hoop groove and take baby steps to strengthening each new muscle you use to hoop. It is a total body workout.
There comes a transition as you are stronger, where it is no longer your fun fitness, but rather a moving meditation art form. It has circular movements and with LED hoops, there are multi-colour LEDs to put you in a trance. We use symmetry in hooping as a fluid dance. You become very much lost in your own movement, expression and focus on each sweet moment to level up.
Hula Hooping is a powerful positive energy that I model to all age groups as a way to channel fears, anxiety and depression. It is my happy place that bring me calm, focus, regular breathing, belly comfort, rhythm, beat, freedom to flow and feel music with the dance of your hoop.
I faced my fears, my dreams and I learned to be honest about what I wanted in life to be happy.
Find your passion, accept it, remind yourself that you need to take care of you. Take care of you, to be you, to give out your special gift.

This picture is from I Am Genie Audition 2014, where I talk about Hooping the Grumpies away to love yourself and live the life you are meant to live.
Teaching junior high for 16 years, prepared me to be the teacher of living healthy in mind-body-soul. This is what I am meant to teach.

I Heart Hoop Class!

I am the mother to an amazing, inspiring, eight-year-old boy named Brennen.  Brennen has an infectious smile, a hearty laugh, a large circle of friends and an active social life.  Brennen also has Cerebral Palsy.  You can read Brennen’s story here in  Tulip Tales Blog
Brennen is dependent on me for all aspects of his care, and it is a full-time job.  In addition, I run a family child care home and care for five other children with special needs.  It has become my life’s work.  It is my focus, my mission, and my passion.  Nurturing children who require a little extra help is extremely satisfying, but is undoubtedly very demanding and can be draining at times.  While most Moms are running from soccer practice to piano lessons, I am at doctors’ appointments and therapy sessions.  It is a different world, full of worry, and a lot of work, but it is beautifully rewarding world as well.
Though my life is consumed with meeting the needs of my child and the children in my care, I do strongly recognize the need to look after myself as well.  There was a time when I believed that sacrificing my own needs was ‘ok’, because it allowed me to give more to someone else.   I know now that this is not the case.  Physically, mentally and emotionally, our bodies and minds must be nurtured and tended to if we are to expect anything great to come from them.

Several years ago, I discovered Cindy’s hoop-fit class, and I was hooked from the first time I tried it.  I fell in love with the sense of freedom I felt when spinning that hoop, round-and-round, up-and-down, imagining every rotation unravelling the built-up stresses and anxiety of my crazy life.
I hoop not for weight-loss or even for fitness.  I hoop because pushing myself, breathing deeply and moving my hips to a rockin’ beat makes me happy.  It gives me an emotional boost.  It is the one hour in the week that I don’t feel as though everyone is depending on me.  I have been involved in dance classes in the past that taught precise steps and strict choreography.  It was just too much pressure that I do not need on top of everything else!  Cindy’s high energy, enthusiasm and overall “joie de vivre” is contagious.  After an hour of putting it all out on the dance floor, I leave our class with a renewed sense of clarity.  I am re-energized, re-invigorated, and inspired.
I have made some wonderful friends at our hoop-fit classes.  It’s like our own little supportive community, and it is good for the soul.
Having a strong support network and taking time to do the things that make you happy are necessities when faced with the complex and challenging yet immeasurably rewarding job of raising a child with special needs.
Feed your soul.
Put on your own oxygen mask first before assisting someone else. Those flight attendants know what they're talking about.
