Dear Work That Reconnects Network Family and Friends,

The latest Deep Times journal gives us many glimpses into how the Work That Reconnects is evolving around the world. A couple of pieces in particular caught our eye.

In Earth-grief: Conversations for revealing and healing our kinship, Bridget Woods shares elements of a workshop series in South Africa, in which ritual rooted in African traditions wove together with practices long treasured within the Work That Reconnects.

日本でのアクティブ・ホープ〜福島への旅を通して, に 田嶋真紀 (Active Hope in Japan, by Maki Tajima) describes the Fukushima Learning Journeys, in which WTR practices provide a structure for receiving, and learning from, the stories of those directly affected by the ongoing nuclear power plant disaster.

Also in Deep Times, The Seer & the Believer, a poem by Shayontoni Ghosh from Hyderabad, India, describes the sacred space offered through the welcome presence of a neighborhood tree.

Shayontoni, a volunteer Weaver with the WTR Network since April, has accepted a position as a member of our paid administrative staff, joining Silvia, Jo and Frieda. She has just the skill set our team needs, and will continue to offer her wisdom and perspective as a valued member of our leadership team. Shayontoni stepped up to facilitate a recent WTR Spiral for our core team. In two swiftly passing hours, she guided us through the Spiral in a simple and creative way. We reflected on the many ways in which we each, in her words, “cultivate power for the community” in our efforts for the Great Turning.

Helen Sui, also a volunteer Network Weaver, recently led a weekend WTR workshop in Suzhou, China. She tells about the weekend, and the recent development of the WTR in China, in the article below.

Joanna Macy shares from her heart in a deeply felt conversation with Vicki Robin on the latest What Could Possibly Go Right? podcast from Post Carbon Institute. The conversation is an absolute delight, and it is profoundly moving to hear her articulate, in some new ways, the fruits of a passionate and enduring love affair with the gift of life. To listeners of all ages, she says: follow your emotions, they open the door.

Yours in the Great Turning,

🌀 WTR Network Weavers Team

Love, Rage, Rebel: Climate Activism and the Great Turning
a Work That Reconnects Network Webinar

with Margo van Greta and Tom Deacon

Wednesday November 9, 2022
11am-1pm PST (UTC-7)

In this webinar we explore how the three dimensions relate to each other, and how bringing them forward through Work that Reconnects inspired sessions can build trust, courage and resilience in movements for climate justice. We include recent examples and insights from the UK where we hold experiential sessions based on the Work That Reconnects in-service of climate activist movements including Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil. We also give space for you to reflect where you are personally at in the Great Turning, and share your experiences with likeminded people from all over the planet.

Liberation for All: Bringing Tenderness to Conversations about Power and Privilege
a Work That Reconnects Network Webinar
with Miki Kashtan

Saturday, November 19
11 AM to 1 PM PDT (UTC -8)

When engaging with topics of power and privilege, would you like for everyone who has experienced impacts across power differences to be heard and engaged with deeply? Are you longing for people with access to resources, relational power, or societal privilege to leave such conversations with growing capacity and insight?
This webinar is designed to look at how we can move in this direction and transform such conversations even while the systems we live in are unchanged. This webinar mixes dense content with interactive engagement so that learning arises within what people bring with them to the table.

Active Hope: The Work That Reconnects in China

Helen Sui and her colleagues in China have continued offering Work That Reconnects workshops in person, when Covid protocols allow, including one in September. They include many traditional WTR practices, including the Elm Dance. They have noticed some new developments over the past three years and would like to share them with the world.

Call for Submissions
Deep Times: A Journal of the Work That Reconnects

For the next issue of Deep Times, to be published at the March 2023 Equinox, the editorial team has decided to have an open theme. We have many submissions on hand from past issues (which didn’t quite fit previous themes) that we’d like to share. Moreover, some of you may have responses to articles and poems in previous issues, or the themes of previous issues, that you would like to submit. So please do! For the first few issues of our journal, we didn’t have themes, although one nearly always emerged. So that may happen this time, too.

We really enjoyed the bi-lingual submissions we received for the September 2022 issue and welcome submissions from around the world in your mother tongue as well as in English translation. We especially want to feature People of the Global Majority and youth writers and artists.
