Dementia Friendly America 2017 Highlights

More and more communities and individuals are contributing to making communities dementia friendly – here are key highlights from the movement’s efforts in 2017.

Anyone can play a role in ensuring that communities are prepared to support people with dementia. That’s where programs like Dementia Friendly America come in, by helping all sectors of the community — business, health care, banking and financial, faith, law enforcement and others — recognize the symptoms of dementia and realize the role they can play in making the community more welcoming to people living with dementia as well as their care partners.

Living Well with Dementia in the Community – A Photo Contest about Dementia Friendly Communities

Across the country, in communities large and small, people and organizations are working to ensure that neighborhoods, businesses, arts and cultural institutions, faith communities and others are welcoming and supportive of persons living with dementia and their care partners. We are looking for photos that capture the essence and diversity of being dementia friendly.

Please share with us pictures of people and events that demonstrate how persons living with dementia and their care partners can remain engaged and independent in their communities.

For example, a memory café, adult day care activities and support groups, worship services, physical activity programs, library, arts or other cultural activities, sensory gardens and other supportive outdoor spaces, transportation options, accessible business locations, appropriately designed or modified housing options and health services.

We will choose at least one Grand-Prize-Winning photo to be featured on our Dementia Friendly America website, newsletter, and social media platforms using the tags #MemoryGuardians and #DementiaFriendlyAmerica. The Grand-Prize winner(s) and two runner ups will also receive gift cards of $100, $50, and $25.

Winners will be notified via email by Jan 19, 2018 and announced online via Twitter and Facebook on or about Jan 19, 2018. The deadline for submissions is Dec 29, 2017.
