Catch the Summer $15 & Fairness Wave! 🏄

Dear Friends,

We are still awaiting the first report of the Ministry of Labour's Changing Workplaces Review which is intended to modernize the laws that govern our work and workplaces. The first or "interim" report was originally promised for February 2016, and has been delayed every month since then. Our most recent information suggests it will be released this week, but we can't know for sure. We will keep you posted, so watch your inbox for news.

For those of you just joining our campaign, the interim report will summarize the issues and solutions highlighted by those who made deputations during last year's formal consultation process. We have been calling for changes to the Employment Standards Act and Labour Relations Act that will better protect workers and curb employer practices that undermine our working conditions. Importantly, the report will give us a chance to make sure our issues were heard loudly and clearly as we organized across the province to raise
$15 and Fairness demands during the consultations.

Fortunately, the ongoing wait for the Changing Workplaces Review interim report hasn't dampened our organizing energy! Across Ontario, we are using our time to spread the word, get more people involved and build a strong campaign for decent work. As a result, there is growing momentum for the
Fight for $15 and Fairness. Local networks are using the good weather and high spirits to get active. Here are just a few examples: Over the next few weeks, the action continues throughout the province, from Windsor to Sudbury. Please scroll down to find an event or action in YOUR community:

SAVE THE DATES:
October 1 to 7 is Decent Work Week

Even though the summer's in full swing -- now's the time to start planning for October's Decent Work Week from October 1 to 7.

October 1 - All out for $15 and Fairness!

We want to bring as many people as we can to Queen's Park on October 1 to show Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs) that Ontarians are strong and united in their demands for meaningful changes to Ontario's labour and employment laws. Community groups, students' unions, trade unions and retirees are already working together to fill buses from across the province. If you want to come to Toronto on October 1 or if you can help fill a bus from your community, email us right now! To RSVP and share on Facebook, click here.

October 7 - World Day for Decent Work

The World Day for Decent work just happens to coincide with constituency day for MPPs. That's when the Legislative Assembly is not in session, so MPPs can work and meet with people in their home ridings. Let's make the most of this opportunity to visit our MPPs in our own communities and turn up the heat on our representatives. If you haven't had a chance to deliver signed petitions to your MPP, and ask them to make sure they are read and presented to the Legislative Assembly, now's your golden opportunity to do so!

Let's use every opportunity between now and October 7, to spread the word about the Fight for $15 and Fairness.

If you have a Fight for $15 and Fairness event coming up that isn't listed here, please email us at Fightfor15andFairness@gmail.com and we'll include it in the next communiqué.

See you soon!
