We all have somewhere else to be these days, it seems. And even though we’re physically present between point A and B we often disappear into devices & the online world. But it’s not all darkness — there’s some beauty in solitude, just don’t get completely lost in the commute. We’re in this together, after all.
Join Australia-based photographer Mark Forbes as he wanders the streets of Tokyo with a camera & heart full of curiosity documenting the Lonely Commute.
"I had been to Tokyo and some other parts of Japan in 2008 on a holiday and was blown away by the place. At the time I had done some shooting, but never felt that I’d done Tokyo justice — there are so many photo opportunities there it is literally a street photography paradise."
"From someone who loves shooting street photography, the whole experience shooting this set was just great. Tokyo serves up opportunities constantly, there are so many different locations and people just everywhere ready to walk into your shot - not caring about cameras at all. Basically perfect."
"The thing that did surprise me most was how accepting the people in Tokyo were to cameras - a lot more relaxed compared to back in Australia. Having been there once before I knew how many people were around and how busy the place can get so that was all less of an eye opener this time, and I could just focus on shooting the places that I wanted to."
