December Programs

Open TEA Room
Tuesday, December 3rd and 17th at 4 p.m.
This fall, help us decide what stays and what goes in the TEA Room! Do you think these projects should stay or should they get the boot? Try it out and decide for yourself.
December 3rd: Architecture Legos

Movie Matinee: The Secret Life of Pets 2
Wednesday, December 4th at 2 p.m.
Looking for an afternoon activity while school is out? Come into the library for a movie matinee! Max and his pet friends explore the idyllic farm they now call home once their owner is absent. Hilarious circumstances ensue as the formerly urban denizens acquaint themselves with their new pastoral neighbors.
Rated PG, runs for 85 minutes. 
All ages welcome with caregiver.
Movie Matinee: The Nutcracker and the Four Realms
Friday, December 6th at 2 p.m.
Looking for an afternoon activity while school is out? Come into the library for a movie matinee! In this imaginative retelling of The Nutcracker, Klara is sent to a magical world via a key where she meets mice, gingerbread men, and more.
Rated PG, runs for 99 minutes. 
All ages welcome with caregiver.
Cozy Sunday Matinees
Sundays in December at 2 p.m.
Bring the family to the library for a cozy movie matinee!

Messy Monday
Monday, December 16th at 4 p.m.
Get messy with the Children’s Librarians and craft the afternoon away.

Holiday Family Sing-Along
Thursday, December 19th at 10:30 a.m.
Everyone will be laughing all the way as we sing old and new holiday songs with our jolly librarians!

Oil Pastel Wintry Scenes
Monday, December 23rd at 2 p.m.
Celebrate winter with oil pastel art as you learn to create your own winter scene.

Winter Wonderland Crafts
Monday, December 23rd at 4 p.m.
Celebrate the start of winter in the Children's Library by joining us for a special "crafternoon" with Miss Maria!

Movie and Hot Chocolate: Abominable
Thursday, December 26th at 2 p.m.
Have a cup of hot chocolate, courtesy of the Children's Library, before joining the family for a matinee movie! A teen and her friends must outwit some evil villains in order to take a lost Yeti home, in this animated family comedy.
Rated PG, runs for 97 minutes.

Aurora Borealis Pastels
Friday, December 27th at 2 p.m.
Learn oil pastel techniques and create a unique aurora borealis with Miss Catherine!
Open. Ages 8 to 11.
Noon Year's Eve
Tuesday, December 31st at 11:30 a.m.
Families are welcome to join us in the Children's Library for a fun countdown to "noon" as we get ready for the new year! Decorate a craft and have a snack as we celebrate together. Say farewell to 2019 and hello to 2020!

Tie and Wear Scarves
Tuesday, December 3rd at 2 p.m. 
Listen to a cozy story with Miss Sam before creating a scarf by learning to tie on the decorative fringe. Wear your scarf on your way home or save it as a holiday gift for a special someone!
Registered. Ages 7 to 9.
Snow Globe Crafts
Wednesday, December 4th at 4 p.m.
Bring the spirit of winter into your home with a DIY Snow Globe! This is a great project to give to a loved one during the holiday season or keep for yourself.
Registered. Ages 6 to 10.
Jedi Academy
Thursday, December 5th at 2 p.m.
Are you ready to study the Force? Become a Jedi through training games and activities. Fans of the Star Wars series won’t want to miss this opportunity to become Jedi masters.
Registered. Ages 6 to 8.
Coding for Preschoolers
Monday, December 9th at 2:15 p.m.
Children can begin to learn the concepts of coding with the Coding Express from LEGO! Participants will learn to make their train pause, stop, change direction, sound the horn, and more! Taking the familiarity of a train and combining it with the new action bricks, early learners will learn through play about sequencing, looping, conditional coding, and cause and effect in this fun workshop.
Registered. Ages 4 to 5.
3D Games in Roblox Studio
Tuesday, December 10th at 4 p.m.
Combine your child's love of Roblox with technology in this coding program. Participants will embark on their programming journey by developing games with the Roblox Studio Game Engine in this two hour workshop. Come and learn 3D modeling, coding, and game design by creating an obstacle course. Get ready to learn the basics of scripting in Lua to add gameplay elements like traps and more.
Participants must create a Roblox account prior to attending this class. Children should have their log-in information with them when attending the workshop. It is free to create an account with Roblox.
Registered. Ages 9 to 12.
Scratch Jr. 
Wednesday, December 11th at 4 p.m.
Does your child have an interest in starting to code? Happy Code Club will teach young children to work in Scratch where projects introduce them to coding blocks with built-in functions that control movement, sounds, and visuals as they begin to craft their first games and stories. Participants will learn to use the blocks and move into projects they can animate with the use of these visual coding languages.
Registered. Ages 6 to 8.
Edible Architecture
Thursday, December 12th at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Bring your family to this holiday program where you can collaborate on building the gingerbread structure of your dreams. Gingerbread, decorations, and seasonal music will be provided, but it is up to your family to bring the creativity. You can choose whether to leave your creation on display in the Children's Library or bring it home to impress your relatives during this magical season! There will be one gingerbread house per family. 
Please register each member of your family who plans to attend this program.

Children's Theater Workshop
Saturday, December 14th at 10 a.m.
Join Ingrid Schaeffer in this theater workshop as children act out the story of The Legend of the Shooting Star. One evening a coyote climbs to the moon to discover the secrets of the heavens. Instead he finds a way to make the most wonderful pictures for the entire world to see! Play improvisation games and hear the story before children get dressed up to act it out. All you need to participate is an active imagination!
Registered. Ages 5 to 10.
Stuffed Animal Sleepover
Tuesday, December 17th at 6 p.m.
Do you ever wonder what your stuffed animals do while you're asleep? Join the librarians for our annual storytime with your stuffed animal and we will stay up late to find out just what adventures your stuffed animals have at night! Light refreshments will be served.
Registered. All ages with a caregiver.
Build a Snowman
Monday, December 30th at 3 p.m.
Do you want to build a snowman? Build a snowman that will never melt with buttons, scarves, and more that you can display all winter (or even all summer) long! Get ready to use your imagination in this craft program.
Registered. Ages 6 to 10.

Toddler Tales
Wednesdays at 9:30 a.m.
Walkers (up to 36 months) with a caregiver. This fast-paced storytime for lively toddlers includes books, songs, fingerplays, and movement.

Baby Laptime
Thursdays at 9:30 a.m.
Pre-walking babies and a caregiver. Join us for fingerplays, songs, and bounce rhymes in this lapsit storytime.

Preschool Time
Friday, November 15th and 29th at 2:15 p.m.
Pre-walking babies and a caregiver. Join us for stories, activities, and music!

Storytime Saturday
Saturday, December 7th at 11 a.m.

Walkers (up to 36 months) and a parent/caregiver. This weekend storytime for families will include some of our favorite books, rhymes, songs and fingerplays.

Lego Club
Saturdays at 2 p.m.

Are you a Lego fan? Let's build something together! Stop by every Saturday to participate in collaborative Lego building with other kids. Ages 5 and up.
Looking for a fun fall activity? Visit a new exhibit by borrowing one of our museum passes!
