Special Opportunity: Tribune Tours June 23 and July 9
With construction scheduled to begin this fall, Incourage invites you to join Helen Jungwirth, past Board Chair of Incourage, on a special pre-construction tour of the Tribune. Tours are scheduled for tonight, June 23 at 5:30 p.m. and Thursday, July 9 at 5:30 p.m.
As a longtime resident, and retired president and publisher of the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune and Stevens Point Journal, Helen is very familiar with the unique history of the building and presents an engaging tour that participants of all ages can enjoy. Incourage staff will join Helen in these tours to illustrate the Tribune’s future as shaped by residents through the Project’s 18-month process.
These special pre-construction tours are the perfect opportunity for you to share with family, friends and anyone who has ever asked, “What is the Tribune and why is it important to our community?” the truly special place that you helped to shape. Space is limited, so please RSVP today
. Please note that the tour includes stairs, and the building does not currently house elevators, ramps, or functioning restrooms.
In preparation for construction this fall, you may see increased activity within and around the building beginning this week, as samples have been gathered to test for substances that would need to be remediated such as asbestos. As substances like asbestos are sometimes present in buildings constructed around the same time period as the Tribune, Incourage is conducting this sampling for due diligence and to plan for the remediation of any substances that may be present. Several holes will also be dug soon around the exterior and interior of the building to test the soil’s strength in supporting the proposed Tribune design. With the addition of a third floor, Incourage is conducting these tests for due diligence and to ensure the existing structure and surrounding soil can support additional weight.
In the News
The Tribune was recently featured on the June 16 broadcast
of WSAW News Channel 7’s Your Town Wisconsin Rapids. For the interview, resident Lois Makowski and Mayor Vruwink joined Incourage’s Chelsey Mazurek. When speaking to news anchor Jeff Thelen, Mayor Vruwink shared, "This project will be no question a catalyst for other development. There is already talk about space surrounding this building even across the river. This project will really help support other development.” Please watch and share this news story.

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, August 5 – the fourth annual Community Picnic! For the past three years, we've held it at Lake Wazeecha. It was a wonderful location and we appreciate the partnerships with Wood County Parks & Forestry and the Town of Grand Rapids. However, given Incourage's interest and investment in downtown, moving the location for this year's Picnic makes sense. We're pleased to share the City of Wisconsin Rapids approved our application to host the event downtown near the Tribune, and planning is in full swing!
This picnic would not be possible without the time and dedication of community volunteers. If you or someone you know is interested in volunteering, we would greatly appreciate the support. Volunteers must be at least 13 years old, and will likely be standing or on the move for two hours at a time. If you wish to volunteer, please sign up here
or email firstname.lastname@example.org
. We’ll be glad to share more information about how you can help!
