Rural Gateway Peer-To-Peer Conference Call
HUD's Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes:
A Discussion of Best Practices
Date: October 26, 2016
Time: 2:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. EDT

The Office of Rural Housing and Economic Development (ORHED) invites you to take part in our next Peer-to-Peer conference call. Scheduled for October 26, 2016 this call will offer participants the opportunity to learn about available activities through the Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes (OLHCHH) through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes' mission is to provide funds to state and local governments to develop cost-effective ways to reduce lead-based paint hazards. In addition, the office enforces HUD's lead-based paint regulations, provides public outreach and technical assistance, and conducts technical studies to help protect children and their families from health and safety hazards in the home.

The Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes is unique among federal agencies. In 1991, Congress established HUD's Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes to eliminate lead-based paint hazards in America's privately-owned and low-income housing. The Office brings science to bear directly upon America's housing and provides grants for communities to address their own lead paint hazards.

Leaders of the Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes will share their knowledge of successfully implementing activities that have expanded and created opportunities for those living in rural communities. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about best practices and establish contacts for future reference.

Join HUD's Office of Rural Housing and Economic Development (ORHED) and the Office of Lead Hazard Control and Healthy Homes as we engage rural leaders in this open forum on opportunities available through HUD. Speakers will include:

  • Valerie G. Piper, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic Development, Community Planning and Development, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development;
