The Boston Housing Authority (BHA) has published a new showcase project on their Saint Botolph Apartments for elderly and disabled persons. BHA has undertaken a Rental Assistance Demonstration (RAD) conversion, a HUD program that allows public housing authorities to leverage private capital to finance upgrades to housing stock. Through the installation of energy-efficient technology and smart engineering, the RAD conversion is expected to lead to decreased energy use, water use, and carbon emissions.

Upcoming Event: 2019 Better Buildings Summit Multifamily Agenda

2019 Better Buildings Summit

The 2019 Better Buildings Summit is right around the corner, July 10-11 in the Washington, D.C. metro area (Arlington, VA). Join fellow BBC Multifamily partners, affiliates, and other stakeholders to share energy and water efficiency strategies in affordable housing and learn from multifamily housing peers.

The Summit will kick-off with a pre-conference Affordable Multifamily Housing Tour of Channel Square Apartments on July 9th in Southwest DC. The tour is hosted by NHT. NHT completed extensive renovations in 2015 that have already produced $559,000 in energy savings. NHT used more than $300,000 in incentives from the DC Sustainable Energy Utility to implement a comprehensive bundle of efficiency measures as well as 320 kW of solar PV and a 60-therm solar hot water heater. The tour will begin with an overview of the financial strategy used to fund the improvements, followed by a visit to residential units, common spaces, the central plant, and the rooftop solar PV and solar thermal installations.

Summit organizers have worked to ensure that the multifamily track includes events and sessions with content that is both relevant and new to multifamily housing providers. Attendees will have the opportunity to mingle and share best practices at Wednesday morning's Multifamily Sector Meet-up, followed by a Networking Lunch. Multifamily sessions include:
