The HUD Office of Environment and Energy is pleased to announce the release of a complete module series: Web-based Instructional System for Environmental Review, or WISER. This online training series ensures that recipients and subrecipients understand the various areas to be considered in conducting an environmental review.
The WISER curriculum offers detailed and specific information on each topic, enabling users to learn about the broad range of risks to the environment which should be considered in the course of a comprehensive environmental review. WISER includes how to protect natural resources such as bodies of water including wild and scenic rivers; farmlands; clean air; historic buildings, and endangered species; as well as how to understand and address threats to the environment posed by factors such as noise, explosive and flammable materials, airports, and contaminated sites.
Each module includes a downloadable key definitions PDF, knowledge checks to confirm comprehension, and links to needed resources. The modules cover the following topic areas:
