Friends and Neighbors,
This next year, the HUD Center for Faith-Based & Neighborhood Partnerships and the Office of HIV/AIDS Housing will be collaborating on various projects to raise awareness and provide resources for our stakeholders and partners about the Housing Opportunities for Persons With AIDS (HOPWA) Program. Today, we commemorate World AIDS Day which is an opportunity for all of us to recognize all the lives affected by HIV and renew our efforts in the fight against HIV. It is also an opportunity to raise awareness of the impact of HIV on communities around the world and educate our community members about HIV and prevention.
We encourage you to participate in World AIDS Day events already planned in your communities, or even host an event of your own this week. Ideas for your church or organization include: writing something in the church bulletin or announcements, handing out flyers in the lobby, posting a badge on your website, or even using social media on December 1 to discuss the epidemic. Additionally, please use this as a great opportunity to raise awareness for our youth, who now account for 1 in every 4 new HIV infections. View the printable toolkit for faith and community-based organizations.
Visit the World AIDS Day website for more information.
Don’t forget that social media will be a popular way to promote awareness so we also encourage you to tweet and post on Facebook.
The HUD Office of HIV/AIDS Housing office will be tweeting from their twitter account, @HUD_HOPWA.
