HUD Announces $10 Million in SHOP Grants and $4 Million in VHRMP Grants

HUD's FY2020 SHOP Grantees

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) awarded $10 million in "sweat equity" grants to four nonprofit, self-help housing organizations which will create at least 536 affordable homes for hard-working, low-income families and individuals. Funded through HUD's Self-Help Homeownership Opportunity Program (SHOP), the funding awarded, along with the labor contributed by the homebuyers and numerous volunteers, will significantly lower the cost of homeownership.

HUD's FY2020 VHRMP Grantees

HUD and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) also announced $3.9 million in funding through the Veterans Housing Rehabilitation and Modification Pilot Program (VHRMP) to help make homes more accessible for disabled veterans. Through the VHRMP program, grantees will make necessary physical modifications to address the needs of eligible veterans, including wheelchair ramps, widening doors, reconfiguring bathrooms, and modifying homes to accommodate a veteran’s caregiver.
