Facilitating bequests.

Bequests can be important sources of funding for non-profit organizations, but non-profit staff and volunteers may not know how to have conversations with potential donors about gift planning opportunities.
At ESCC’s March meeting of Executive Directors and Board Chairs, we hosted a panel discussion on how to facilitate bequests. Marilyn Monson of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) Alberta North Chapter provided an overview of types of bequests and gave suggestions for what organizations can do to raise awareness of bequest opportunities with their members and build relationships. If you are an ESCC member and would like a copy of Marilyn’s presentation, contact Janelle, ESCC's Communications Coordinator. Hugh Newell from the North Edmonton Seniors Association (NESA) talked about NESA’s experience with receiving a bequest. Hugh shared what NESA learned and gave valuable advice for other seniors organizations.

New office space for ESCC.

As many of you know, ESCC shares office space with Align and the Edmonton Chamber of Voluntary Organizations (ECVO) at Bonnie Doon Centre.
When the tenants in the office next door moved, the opportunity arose for ESCC, Align and ECVO to expand into the vacated unit. This was ideal timing as we couldn’t find space to fit anymore desks. An amendment was made to our current lease agreement and we met with representatives from the Netherlands Consulate prior to their vacating the space. They were kind enough to leave a great deal of furniture for all three organizations to use.
While it presented challenges in terms of noise and dust, work began early in January to reconfigure the new space to meet our needs. Renovations, including knocking down walls, electrical work and painting, were completed in January and we moved into the new space in February. To save costs, ESCC staff painted the new space.
The revamped office is more functional and comfortable for all three organizations and will accommodate additional staff recently hired by ECVO and new project staff we expect to add soon. Two meeting rooms are now available in the office which has made it easier to conduct the many meetings ESCC and our office mates host. Our address remains the same, but the main door to the office has moved further down the hallway.
We’re settling in and invite you to drop in for a visit next time you're in the area.
