South Africa Strike Affecting Container Operations

Dear Valued Customer,
We have been notified by Bidvest International Logistics, our partner in South Africa, as well as individual container terminal operators that a labor strike is underway in South Africa. The labor action follows a breakdown in wage negotiations between transport workers and the state-owned port and rail operator Transnet SOC Ltd.
The United National Transport Union, the majority labor group at Transnet, began the strike on October 6. The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union, the second-biggest employee group, and other smaller unions halted work yesterday.
As of today, talks are still at an impasse and the work stoppage is expected to have major impacts on the South African economy.
