The Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles have announced that they will delay consideration of the Container Dwell Fee for another week, this time until January 10.
Since the fee was announced on October 25, the two ports have seen a combined decline of 35% in aging cargo on the docks. The executive directors of both ports will reassess fee implementation after another week of monitoring data.
If implemented, the ports would charge ocean carriers $100 per container, increasing in $100 increments per container per day until the container leaves the terminal. Charges are cumulative once they begin.
You can read the full announcement here. We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
