Message from the Principal

Dear Emerson Community,

February is a short month, but it has already proven to be busy and exciting.  Last Saturday, The Pancake Breakfast was a hit- it was both delicious and fun.  A big thank you to Rob Kopf and Nathan Stahlhut for coordinating the yummy event.  We would be remiss if we went any longer without thanking Eric Thompson for heading up the Friday “before school” coffee on the play yard.  It’s great to see these fathers making a positive contribution to Emerson and we are grateful for their dedication.  If you would like to join the Dad’s Club, you are welcome- feel free to reach out to your room parent, teacher or office staff and we can help you get started.

Don’t forget that we have two quick weeks ahead.  School will not be in session on Friday, February 14 or Monday, February 17 as we celebrate President’s Day Weekend.  In addition, the end of this grading period is Friday, February 21st.  We will send report cards home in early March.  As always, if you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to your classroom teacher or me.  This is a good time to remind everyone that I practice an open door policy.  Unless I am in a meeting, helping students or working to fulfill a deadline, I am available to parents.  My goal, especially during my first year at Emerson, is to build relationships and learn more about the community.  The best way to reach me is e-mail, phone call or come by.

Finally, we still have space in the Spring Equity Study Circle. I participated during the fall session, and I found it to be an invaluable experience.  If you are interested in learning more about history, current events, diversity and tools to educate your child about multiculturalism, then please take advantage of this free opportunity presented by the PTA.  Classes are taught by Ms. Pamela Harrison Smalls on Tuesday nights.  The kick off is February 22. Childcare is provided by Mr. John and dinner is included.  Here is the link to register: bit.ly/equitycircle.  It's not too late!

Have a great day and thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Jana Holmes
