Message from the Principal

Dear Emerson Community,

Welcome back to school - we are glad you are here!
We have lots to look forward to as we move into the New Year. We will continue to build a strong, inclusive school culture while maintaining high academic expectations for all students. In our first All School Meeting of 2020, we will review our Caught Being Good program and introduce students to the new weekly drawing system- we want to reward the students more often when we find them practicing the Emerson Way. You are welcome to join us this Friday, January 10 at 8:30 am after you enjoy coffee on the play yard.
It’s hard to believe the time is here, but it is time to begin thinking of transitions for the 2020- 2021 school year. If you have a 5th-grade student, please complete the Middle School Parent Preference form by February 7. In order to complete your request, you will need to provide the supplementary paperwork along with your preference form at the district office by the deadline.  The forms are available on the district website and you can contact the Emerson office if you need help obtaining a printed copy.
Each middle school has an informational night in January, which parents and students may attend. The Willard informational night is January 8, the Longfellow Information Night is January 15, and the King information night is January 22. Willard Middle School offers tours at 10:00am on the first Tuesday of the month in January and February.
You may also attend the Middle School Open Houses, which will take place in March. Once you know which middle school your student has been assigned to, it is very important that you go to the school site and complete the enrollment process. In May, all 5th-grade students will visit the middle schools for a tour, which will help prepare them for the transition to the school they are assigned to attend.
In the meantime, let’s continue to enjoy the time we have together. Thank you for coming back to Emerson and contributing in many ways.
Jana Holmes
