Show & Sell orders
Show & Sell orders will be ready for unit pick up on Saturday, September 8th from 8AM to 9:30AM.  Units will need to go to the following locations for their orders:
  •  Bushy Run District – Busy Beaver, 8800 Norwin Ave., North Huntingdon, PA  15642
  • Laurel Hills District – Westmoreland County Food Bank, 100 Devonshire Drive, Delmont, PA  15626

Prize display
A sample display of some of the prizes being offered this year is still available on a first-come, first-serve basis for Unit kickoffs.  Please contact Bev Myers at the Service Center to reserve a sample display.  The display can be taken a day prior to the Unit kickoff and must be returned a day after the Unit kickoff so that it can be available to other Units in your District.
 

Unit Contests
  • Submit a picture of your Unit Kickoff to the Council Service Center by September 21st to be entered into a drawing for a $50 Scout Shop voucher for your Unit.
  • Submit a picture of your Unit’s Show and Sell to the Council Service Center by October 1st to be entered into a drawing for a $50 Scout Shop voucher for your Unit.

Annual Commissioner’s Conference  
at Camp Tenacharison 

September 8, 2018
8:00a.m. – Noon   $10.00 Registration
It’s time again for our Annual Commissioner’s Conference and workshop.  This is open to all commissioners or those wanting to learn more about commissioner service.

The morning will start off at with registration at 8:00 followed by breakfast prepared by our own Chef Martin at 8:30.

The rest of the morning will be spent learning about how we can be more effective in providing appropriate support to units having problems by using leadership skills, working in small groups to brainstorm, and learning more about Family Scouting, Detailed Assessments and Commissioner Updates and Technology.  Of course, it wouldn’t be Scouting without some fun too.

Everyone’s input will be important as we grow and strengthen our service to Units.
Will you be there?     Please register by Sept 3, 2018 by contacting the Council Office or your District Commissioner.

Don’t wait.  Register by September 3th, so we know how much food to purchase and prepare for breakfast.  See you on September 15th!

Scoutmaster Specific Training
The Scoutmaster Specific Training will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Camp Tenacharison.

Please register and pay for the training at the Council Service Center by September 13, 2018. The cost for the training is $5.00.  This includes any handouts you will need, a trained card upon completing the class and coffee/Danish. Arrival is 8:30 AM..  The course starts promptly at 9:00AM and finishes around 2:00 p.m.

September 15th at Camp Tenacharison .  Register at the office by 13th, $5.  Arrive by 8:30, training will be 9am-2pm


BALOO Training

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation
November 3-4, 2018
8:30 a.m. Saturday to 12:00 p.m. Sunday

BALOO  for Cub Scout leaders is a training event that will provide the necessary knowledge and skills for a pack to be able to plan a pack or Webelos/Arrow of Light Den Campout.

It will cover everything you need to know to plan and run an overnighter.  BALOO is more than just camping, it includes:  Ideas for outdoor activities, games and ceremonies, information on selecting and using camping equipment, how to run a campfire program, hands-on Cub Scout cooking demonstrations, and more!

This training is required for any adult who is in charge of planning a pack or Webelos den campout and it is required for at least one adult per pack to complete BALOO training in order to plan campouts for Cub Scouts.

Participants attending the training should dress for the weather, as some portions of the training are done outside.  A tent, sleeping bag, and basic camping equipment will be required as an overnight component is part of the course.  This course has an online pre-requisite.  Instructions will be sent to participants upon registration.

We have all positions open for the Eberly Scout Reservation Staff for 2019.  Please see the list of positions listed below that we would like to fill immediately.  To apply for any of these positions, or any Camp Staff position please complete a Camp Staff Application found on the Council Website.  Return the staff application to the Council Service Center, 2 Garden Center Drive, Greensburg, Pa. 15601 by mail. YOUTH PROTECTION TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES


All Volunteers are required to complete the NEW Youth Protection Training (either online or in person) by September 30.  These are facilitator-led versions of the new training.  This course takes approximately 90 minutes to complete online or in person.

Old Trail's District New Youth Protection Training
We will be holding the NEW Youth Protection Training at Morell VFD on WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 26 at 6:30 PM. ALL leaders need to be trained with the new syllabus by October 1st.  Training is also available online at My.scouting.org.  Please plan on attending if you cannot complete it on line by the October 1st deadline.


 2018 Catholic Scouting Retreatoree

Many Vocations – One Call to Holiness
September 28th – 30th
Camp Conestoga, Eberly Scout Reservation, Bakersville, PA

 
Boy Scouts, Webelos, Explorers, Venturers and Girl Scouts in Grade 5 and up are invited to attend this fun-filled weekend. A Scout is reverent for life! Our retreat will be exploring what a vocation is, and what yours might be in the future – married or single life, or a call to the priesthood or consecrated religious life.  There will be time for Mass, prayer, the Sacrament of Reconciliation, and meditation. Expect lively discussions and a dose of laughter too. All in the setting of God’s beautiful nature at Camp Conestoga.
 
The Retreatoree is open to all Scouts but is Catholic oriented. The program is faithful to and will uphold the teaching of the Roman Catholic Church.
 
The cost of the event is $25.00. Included are Friday evening snacks, Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner, evening snacks and Sunday breakfast. Also included in the cost is the program, materials and an event patch.  Click

The National Catholic Leadership Development (NCLD) Program for adults will be offered on Saturday.  Adults coming to camp for the NCLD for the day only (not camping overnight) will have a cost of $10.00. This includes the program and lunch.
 
The weekend will close with Holy Mass on Sunday morning at 9:30AM. All families are invited to join the campers. Bishop Edward Malesic plans to preside over our closing Mass this year.
 
Check-in begins on Friday, September 28th at 6:00PM in the Dining Hall. The Friday evening session will begin at 8:00PM in the Dining Hall too. A current BSA Annual Health & Medical Record (Parts A/B) is required. Bring it to check-in. A Camper Covenant of conduct, Parent Medical and Liability Release, and Publicity/Promotion Release  (add hyperlink[s])must also be signed and provided at registration check-in.
 
NOTE: all participants must be registered Scouts, Scouters, parents/guardians. All must comply with current BSA/GSA camping requirements regarding registration and Youth Protection. TENT CAMPING – all participants must bring their own tents. Groups attending as units must providing two-deep leadership per BSA requirements. All participants will be camping in the same campsite under provisional camping rules. Individual attendees will be assigned to provisional units/leaders. Please notify the Retreatoree Chair if you are a provisional camper.

Retreatoree for Younger Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts Day Program
 Saturday, September 29th
 
All Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts in Grades K – 4 are invited to attend a special program on Saturday. It will feature age appropriate activities around the theme of the Retreatoree.

Parents are encouraged to attend. BSA/GSA leadership policies including two-deep leadership and adult/child ratio applies.

The cost is $5.00 for the day. It includes the program, patch and lunch.
Check-in begins at 10:30AM and the program begins at 11:00AM with Mass.
