Help Wanted – Learning for Life Program Aide

Learning for Life is the in school character education program of the Boy Scouts of America.  We serve pre-K through high school with this program.  We are looking for an individual who is a self-starter and enjoys working with children in a classroom setting.  This person would plan and develop and then deliver a program once a month to approximately 40 to 45 classrooms across Westmoreland County.  This a part time position working 30 to 35 hours a week when school is in session.  Applications and resumes are due by October 31, 2018 and should be sent to 2 Garden Center Drive, Greensburg, Pa 15601.

BALOO  for Cub Scout leaders is a training event that will provide the necessary knowledge and skills for a pack to be able to plan a pack or Webelos/Arrow of Light Den Campout.

It will cover everything you need to know to plan and run an overnighter.  BALOO is more than just camping, it includes:  Ideas for outdoor activities, games and ceremonies, information on selecting and using camping equipment, how to run a campfire program, hands-on Cub Scout cooking demonstrations, and more!

This training is required for any adult who is in charge of planning a pack or Webelos den campout and it is required for at least one adult per pack to complete BALOO training in order to plan campouts for Cub Scouts.

Calling all Den Leaders!  This is a great way to learn about tools, resources, ideas and techniques that will make your role as a Cub Leader easier while having the opportunity to have questions answered by fellow Scouters.
The $5.00 fee covers handouts and snacks

Volunteer Award Nominations- Nominations are now being accepted for the District Award of Merit and the District Award of Notable Achievement.  Please consider nominating a volunteer from your Pack, Troop, Post or Crew for one of these awards.  Nominations are due by November 2, 2018.  Click on Award links to download nomination forms.

Roundtable- Thursday, October 18, 2018  7:00 pm at Mountain View Elementary (1010 Mountain View Drive, Greensburg)  This month's topics will focus on Service Projects- ideas, "how to" and teaching youth the importance of giving back.  Roundtable is open to all Volunteers and Parents

Romaine Calm; Cooking Is Fun.
Let the cooking begin. Boy Scout Patrols and Troops will engage in three late morning cooking contests using nontraditional cooking methods and for the fourth and final cooking contest, will cook a Thanksgiving Dinner with all the fixings for all Boy Scouts and Webelos to enjoy. During the afternoon, Webelos will get a chance to cook using non-traditional cooking methods while earning their Cast Iron Chef Badge. Fun will be had by all, with full stomachs. The day will end with skits, songs, and a flag retirement ceremony with taps.

  2. Last Group Training will be on Saturday October, 20 2018 at Camp Conestoga. Class starts at 10:30 am Sharp. (takes 90 min.)  PLEASE Email Paul Rock at if you plan on attending to ensure enough training material.

Any Current Registered Scout, (Cub or Troop Level),
who brings a buddy to their Unit and they Sign Up,

Here is some important news happening soon!
  1. Any scout who recruits a new scout to sign up between October  1 and October 31 will receive a SLING SHOT and the new scout will receive a Camera.
  2. Second sign up Nights will be held the week of November 5 through the 9.  I need to know the location of your Pack meeting that week to put on the flyers for the schools.  EXAMPLE Pack 609, Fairchance Fire Hall 7PM on November 6
  3. Fall Camporee on October 19, 20, 21. Information below
Popcorn can be picked up on Saturday, November 3rd from 8 to 9AM at the Bon-Ton loading dock at the Uniontown Mall.  Possible pick up may be done on Thursday afternoon also.  You MUST make arrangements with Kristen to schedule this ahead of time.

The Old Trails District Dinner will be on Wednesday, November 14 at 6:30 PM at Morrell VFD.  Please plan on attending and celebrating with the District Award of Merit and Spark Plug Awardees from the District.  Bring a covered dish and we will handle the rest of the fixins.
