What a great summer we’ve had, but all good things come to an end. We did a partial pull at the end of August. The big Peacocks and a few beds were cleared to start construction. We are ready to finish preparing the parks for winter. ALL ACTIVITIES START AT 9:00 AM.
- Wednesday, September 25 in downtown Kalamazoo - pull the beds and remove all the topiaries. There will be lots of great blue Salvia to bring home.
- Thursday, September 26 - empty all 68 large floral containers. These will be driven by bobcat to the empty flower beds, where we can dump them out, remove the flowers, and distribute the remaining soil into the flower beds. There are many flowers to take home, in addition to lots of beautiful Cannas in red and yellow. I will give a class on how to overwinter the roots.
Portage plants will be pulled throughout the week of September 23, but on Tuesday, September 24, we will remove the topiaries and pull select beds. Anyone who helps pull plants will be able to take flowers and mulch home. The mulch has to be raked into piles so Portage can add a good soil amendment. Click here to volunteer on any of these days.
Looking forward to Fall, mark your calendars for our Pumpkin Soiree on November 6. Our one fundraiser is a literal feast for your senses. Amazing creations of all kinds – with the common ingredient of pumpkin – are crafted by local chefs, who compete for bragging rights and a trophy. We're in need of sponsors. Perhaps you'd like to be a sponsor. Many of the levels come with a flower bed sponsorship in Bronson Park next year.
Thanks to everyone for a great planting season. I can't wait to see my blooming buddies at our plant pulls next week!
