What is happening??? My calendar says it is September… what happened to July? Seriously, this summer has flown by, serving us heat, humidity, and amazing blooms. I have returned from my daily visit to Bronson Park (my happy place) and feel like a proud Mama whose children are all grown up. The Begonias are amazing - thanks in no small part to bed adopters who have edged, weeded, and picked out bark throughout the season.

What? September? Oh, that’s when we have to pull the flowers out…so are the days of our lives. We have finalized the schedule, and as usual, will be looking for lots of volunteers. Remember, I always send people home with flowers. Also remember, we do not plant Perennials - all our bed plants are Annuals. But many go to seed and return, as we saw in abundance with the flowers from last year! The Cuphea 'Sriracha Pink' is everywhere, and now the Celosia 'Asian Gardens' is really tall! When that was planted last year, it got kind of spindly worm-like flowers, but this year HOLY COW! It now looks like the pictures from the catalog. So, since we know that these seed and return, when you come to help us on our pull dates, you can take these and plant them at your home, so they can return for you next year!

The last Lunchtime Live is this Friday, September 2 from 11:30 – 1:30 in Bronson Park. Visit our table on South Street and ask our KIB/Master Gardener volunteers your gardening questions.

So, check your calendars: bed pull in downtown Kalamazoo is September 29 & 30; then we're in Portage on October 1 & 3; then back to downtown Kalamazoo for the flower trees and containers on October 4 & 5.

Also, back from a 3-year hiatus is our Pumpkin Soiree! We only get one fundraiser and it is with amazing food and friends. Please be a sponsor and get your tickets for the Soiree happening on Wednesday, November 2 at the Fetzer Center.
