Everything is changing around us. Some of those changes will be welcomed, like the return of annual flowers in our communities!
Because of COVID-19 and the need to social distance, we've had to adjust our schedule and carefully plan how to accomplish this large task and keep everyone safe. Unlike our past planting days where we've actively engaged with volunteers and offered instruction, shared our gardening utensils and gloves, and enjoyed lunch together, we now must limit the number of people participating to those who have volunteered with us before and have their own gardening utensils and gloves, and who know how to plant. In Kalamazoo, we could use a few volunteers each day to load bags of mulch in their truck//SUV and deliver to beds getting planted. If this sounds like you, please join us. Our first day is this Saturday, May 16 and we could really use your help. Click here to sign up.
Below is our schedule. Remember tobring your own gardening essentials, including trowel, gloves, kneeling pad, and water. Wear your KIB shirt from a past season. We are also requiring volunteers to wear a mask.
Saturday, May 16: Canoe and butterfly
Monday, May 18: Library Lane
Tuesday, May 19: City Hall
Wednesday, May 20: Large circle beds
Thursday, May 21: Portage Senior Center (and any other beds that didn't get finished in prior days)
Friday, May 22: Transportation Center containers
Tuesday, May 26: Bronson Park corner beds & Rose St. ovals
Wednesday, May 27: Bronson Park corner beds and interior beds
Thursday, May 28: Bronson Park triangle beds & City Hall
With our new schedule and other accommodations to create a safe planting environment for volunteers and staff, you'll notice a few things missing - no peacocks and topiaries. It will be an exceptional, colorful summer nonetheless! Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
