Bloomin' News August 17, 2018
What a great summer we are having! Sunshine, some rain, more sunshine, and the gardens are happy! Had a chat with Mike from River Street Flowerland about how abundant the containers are this year. They plant them with a beautiful variety every year, but this year the plants are larger than ever. The plants are in a soil mixture that contains fertilizer. Mike told me that with the intense heat in July, then cooler and rain, it really kicked the fertilizer in gear. So if you think they are bigger this year – they are and they're sucking down lots of water.

We will continue with our bounty until the end of September when, as we always do, we have to pull the flowerbeds. We spread this out over a couple of weeks and will be looking for lots of help. There may be some plants to adopt if you volunteer, and certainly hours available for Master Gardeners or Community Service.

Here are tentative dates.  When they're confirmed, a volunteer signup will be available on our website and Facebook page:
  • Monday, September 24 – Pull flower beds
  • Wednesday, September 26 - Remove topiaries, empty large containers of plants and soil
  • TBD week of October 1 – Dismantle Mike the Peacock and flower trees
  • Friday & Saturday, October 5 & 6 – PROJECT: Removing grass from 4 oval beds along Rose Street, adding Daylilies from the park beds.
And mark your calendar for November 7 at 6 pm for our annual Pumpkin Soiree. This is a LOT of fun. Food, drinks, good friends, a good time.
