This is the time many of you are beginning to work on marketing plans for the upcoming year.  Over the last several years, technology has become a more and more important part of that plan. NAR has written a very interesting article discussing five technology applications that REALTORS are using around the country.  Click here and see if any of these applications may help you to a stronger production year in 2014.

Don't forget to RSVP for our November Membership Meeting at the Benton Convention Center on November 19 at 5:45 pm.  WSRAR will present the Thomas W. Lambe Jr, Hall of Fame Award, the 2013 Paul G. Minish REALTOR of the Year Award and others!

During the month of Thanksgiving, I would like to say thank you for your membership to WSRAR!

Governmental Affairs Director, Zach DeWaters

Elections are coming up quickly on Tuesday, November 5th and it is more important than ever to participate in the process.  Last week, I was talking with some business people who are concerned that some recent decisions by elected officials have been impacting their businesses with undue regulations and ordinances.  Many are also simply tired of partisan bickering.  But, no matter how frustrated you may be with your elected officials or politics, the elections are a time to make your voice heard.

When it comes to elections, they have repeatedly come down to near even-Steven results.  For example the 2000 Presidential election was decided by a mere 537 out of almost 6 million votes cast in the State of Florida.  Here locally, in the Town of Lewisville’s 2011 election for Councilman, the difference between the top two vote getters, 19 votes!    This trend, plus the likelihood that our local elections will again be close this year makes it imperative that our members get out to vote on November 5th to make sure our cumulative voice is heard.

The Partners in Housing, Winston-Salem Regional Association of REALTORS® and Home Builders Association of Winston-Salem have five current members running for office this year.  They include:

Clemmons Mayor
(WSRAR Member) John Bost

Clemmons Councilmen
(WSRAR Member) Jack Ingle

Kernersville Town Alderman
(WSRAR Member) Joe Pinnix

Lewisville Councilmen
(HBAWS Member) Jeffrey Zenger

Winston-Salem Council Member – Northwest Ward
(WSRAR Member) Jeff MacIntosh

As Winston-Salem’s REALTORS® and Home Builders, it is important that we have elected officials in office that both understand the contributions our businesses make to the local community and issues that affect our industries.  Working together with like-minded local government officials, we can help build strong, viable communities.  Voting always matters, and you could be the difference between a winner and a loser, so go vote on Tuesday, November 5th.

Basement Square Footage: To Measure all of it or Not?
A large group of the real estate community has been debating the wisdom of whether it should become mandatory for a listing agent to measure the unfinished part of a basement or lower level of a given house. There are 3 constituencies involved in this debate: the appraisers, the sales managers of real estate brokerages, and the listing agents themselves. All 3 have been informally surveyed for purposes of this article.  Click here for the full article.

Plans announced for new Sherwood
The Suburbanite, Thursday, August 24, 1978

A new Sherwood Forest is in the making off Peace Haven Road, with a potential population of some 2000 people in more than 700 homes.

W. Bryan White, who has developed more than 400 home sites in Sherwood Forest and Peace Haven Estates in the past 18 years, will develop the project over the next ten years. White bought the 400-acre tract from the Children’s Home recently, after selling his 55 percent interest in the 575-acre Hanes Ranch property at Clemmons to his nine partners.  Click here for the entire article.
