Governmental Affairs Director, Zach DeWaters
Elections are coming up quickly on Tuesday, November 5th and it is more important than ever to participate in the process. Last week, I was talking with some business people who are concerned that some recent decisions by elected officials have been impacting their businesses with undue regulations and ordinances. Many are also simply tired of partisan bickering. But, no matter how frustrated you may be with your elected officials or politics, the elections are a time to make your voice heard.
When it comes to elections, they have repeatedly come down to near even-Steven results. For example the 2000 Presidential election was decided by a mere 537 out of almost 6 million votes cast in the State of Florida. Here locally, in the Town of Lewisville’s 2011 election for Councilman, the difference between the top two vote getters, 19 votes! This trend, plus the likelihood that our local elections will again be close this year makes it imperative that our members get out to vote on November 5th to make sure our cumulative voice is heard.
The Partners in Housing, Winston-Salem Regional Association of REALTORS® and Home Builders Association of Winston-Salem have five current members running for office this year. They include:
Clemmons Mayor
(WSRAR Member) John Bost
Clemmons Councilmen
(WSRAR Member) Jack Ingle
Kernersville Town Alderman
(WSRAR Member) Joe Pinnix
Lewisville Councilmen
(HBAWS Member) Jeffrey Zenger
Winston-Salem Council Member – Northwest Ward
(WSRAR Member) Jeff MacIntosh
As Winston-Salem’s REALTORS® and Home Builders, it is important that we have elected officials in office that both understand the contributions our businesses make to the local community and issues that affect our industries. Working together with like-minded local government officials, we can help build strong, viable communities. Voting always matters, and you could be the difference between a winner and a loser, so go vote on Tuesday, November 5th.
